General Hospital: Mike makes a difficult decision as his Alzheimer’s journey continues

General Hospital has taken on an emotional Alzheimer’s story affecting the Corinthos family.

It has been a heart wrenching week on General Hospital as Mike Corbin came to a life-changing decision about his health and his future. It hasn’t been an easy road for him or his family as they continue to give him the support he needs after his Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Sonny has been hit especially hard by his father’s health crisis, but they are finally coming together.

Mike’s difficult decision

Sonny and Carly met with Curtis’ aunt Stella to talk about the next step to take with Mike. She drew up some papers for him to sign for his care when his Alzheimer’s progresses to the point that he is unable to make his own decisions. His family is ready and willing to take on the task, but Mike was dead set against it until him and Sonny had an emotional talk about it.

Last week on General Hosptial, Mike raged against Sonny for wanting to have power of attorney over his life. He later told his son that he is afraid that he won’t remember anything or anyone. Sonny let him know that he and his loved ones will be there for him when that happens.

Mike finally realized that the best thing to do was to let his family care for him. General Hospital has touched on this story beautifully. This Alzheimer’s story line on General Hospital has brought another side to Sonny Corinthos. Instead of watching shoot-outs and mob-related stuff, it has revealed all of the emotions that actor Maurice Benard has ignited in his GH character.
