GH has taken on yet another important health issue that has affected many families.

Alzheimer’s disease has suddenly become front and center on ABC’s General Hospital recently. Mike Corbin has been brought back as Sonny’s dad and longtime actor Max Gail is bringing his best to this character. He has taken over the role that was once played by Ron Hale and has been doing an amazing job so far.

Mike’s diagnosis

There were many hints along the way and this week Griffin Munro gave the heartbreaking news that Mike is suffering from Alzheimer’s. He didn’t want to accept it at all, but after a few mishaps which wound up getting him arrested, Mike finally broke down.

You can tell that Sonny is having a hard time with the diagnosis as well. He is trying to be the support that his dad needs, but you can see it in Sonny’s eyes that he is about ready to break down, but he will be there for whatever Mike needs.

The father and son has has a rough relationship in the past, but Sonny would do anything for Mike. Now he is willing to take care of him through his struggles. It will definitely impact the Corinthos family. According to General Hospital spoilers from Soap Central, Sonny will have a hard time accepting Mike’s fate when it comes to this disease.

What will happen now?

Sonny is determined to make sure that his father is cared for. He may want Mike to stay with his family. This will mean that we will see the perils that family members go through with their changing personality and loss of memory.

There is no definite time frame as to how long Max Gail will be on air as Mike Corbin. Eventually, Sonny will have to make the tough decision as to whether he is able to care for Mike at home or to send him to a home to be cared for. This decision is one that many families are forced to make, so it will hit home for a lot of viewers watching General Hospital.
