Get out your maps, Carmen Sandiego is coming back full force. Who knows where in the world she’ll be this time?

More from Netflix

Gina Rodriguez, who was last seen on the big screen starring opposite Natalie Portman in Alex Garland’s breathtaking sci-fi flick Annihilation, will get the chance to don Carmen Sandiego’s trademark red fedora in a live-action movie for Netflix. Coming a few months after the news broke that she would be voicing the titular character in an upcoming animated series for the streaming giant, Deadline reported today that the Jane the Virgin star would additionally be starring as Carmen Sandiego in a stand-alone film in an attempt to revive the long dormant multi-media franchise, which included multiple video games, a PBS animated series, but never a live-action film.

It was reported in 2011 that Walden Media was courting Jennifer Lopez to portray the character in a reboot of the brand, but that project never came to fruition. Rodriguez will produce the feature-length film through her production company I Can and I Will, alongside Kevin Misher (It’s Kind of a Funny Story, Mirror Mirror) and Caroline Fraser, with Andy Berman (Psych, Rosewood) executive producing. In addition to the animated series and the live-action film, a new book series featuring Sandiego will drop around the time of the show’s launch.

Rodriguez is packing her schedule pretty tight, having recently developed a few new television series for CBS and The CW through her production company. Variety reports that through I Can and I Will, Rodriguez hopes to promote diverse culture on the small screen, especially Latino culture. The Golden Globe winner will also star in Someone Great, an upcoming romantic comedy for Netflix about a woman vacationing in New York City with her two best friends after a breakup before starting a new job across the country. Variety claims production on that project will start in April. This fall we will hear Rodriguez voice a yeti in Small Foot, an animated film from Warner Bros. featuring the voices of Channing Tatum, James Corden, Zendaya, and more.
