Missing Sterling K. Brown on This Is Us? Don’t worry, the Emmy-winning actor returns to TV in a guest spot on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Who’s he playing?

Say goodbye to the sweet and innocent Randall Pearson and say hello to the sketchy periodontist being interrogated by detectives. Emmy-winning This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown flexes his comedy muscles in a guest starring role on the latest episode of Fox’s hit sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine airing this Sunday, and he’s leaving everything we know and love about Randall behind.

In the episode titled “The Box,” Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Holt (Andre Braugher) give Sterling K. Brown’s Philip Davidson the third degree as the periodontist has been accused of murdering his business partner. Insert Randall Pearson “What’s happening?” gif here. However, Philip has a quick response for every question the detectives hurl his way. Did Brown’s character do it? Tune into the episode to find out!

Brown’s guest starring role on Brooklyn Nine-Nine marks something of a dream come true for the actor, who publicly thanked Andre Braugher during his Emmy win for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Prior to taking home the award, an African-American actor hadn’t won the honor in 19 years — since Braugher earned the award in 1998 for Homicide: Life on the Street. Both actors graduated from Stanford, and they’re finally working together this Sunday.

While This Is Us takes a break before Season 3 launches in September, Sterling K. Brown will keep busy, as he’s set to hit the big screen in Septembers tentpole Predators. Meanwhile, his turn on Brooklyn Nine-Nine doesn’t come as a surprise since he showed up in a surprise role on HBO’s Insecure last fall. If he can go ahead and guest star on all of our favorite shows, that would be great. I don’t know about you, but his presence on TV is already missed!
