The Crossing is ABC’s highly anticipated spring freshman series. Here’s what you can expect from the pilot episode and why you should watch.
The Crossing is a mix between LOST and Dark Angel. If you love the two shows at the start, you will most definitely love this ABC spring freshman series. You’ll also see plenty of imagery that will make you think of the recent refugee crisis, along with various movie inspirations, especially The Terminator.
Telling the story of a group of people who are found washed up on a beach and the sheriff who finds them, you’ll be drawn into mystery and intrigue. If you think it sounds similar to LOST, don’t worry too much. The EPs promise there isn’t one overall question to answer and this is a series that will answer a question and then give you a new one. Each episode is a bouncing off point into the next episode, but many of the questions will be wrapped by the end of the first 11 episodes—of course, with some left for a hopeful Season 2.
The Crossing has a sci-fi twist or two. The refugees are all from a war-torn America 180 years into the future. As for the Dark Angel/Terminator twist, there are people known as Apexes, and Sheriff Jude Ellis (Steve Zahn) has to figure out the full mystery and help a daughter and mother reunite. That’s if he could get back to where the daughter is, as he soon finds himself off the case thanks to the meddling FBI.

On top of that, it turns out that the refugees aren’t the first people to travel to the past. The first set (think the “Others” from LOST) don’t seem to have been noticed. That may have been because their time travel trip didn’t go wrong like the latest one did. The new group wasn’t supposed to end up underwater!

If you’re looking for a new mystery show with a sci-fi twist, The Crossing is the one you’ll definitely want to watch. Created by the minds behind Revenge and Criminal Minds, this is set to be the hot series for spring. It’s only 11 episodes long in the first season, too, so no need for filler episodes. You’ll get answers each week with new questions, as you try to solve who the “Others” are, what everyone wants, what went wrong for the refugees, and whether mother and daughter can be reunited.
