Why Krypton remaining out of the Arrowverse is the perfect choice

Krypton is the latest DC series to make it to TV and it’s supposed to remain out of the Arrowverse. That’s only a good thing for the series.

There are so many DC shows on TV now. Most of them are part of one universe, known as the Arrowverse. In fact, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow got their start from Arrow, while Supergirl may be in a different Earth, got to crossover with The Flash very early on. Krypton is just the latest DC series to make it to the TV, but won’t be part of this Arrowverse and that’s a good thing.

It doesn’t need to be part of any universe from another show. There’s no need to connect it to Oliver Queen or Barry Allen for some obscure reason. The only show that it could genuinely connect to (and only really in a mention) is with Supergirl. After all, Kara is from Krypton, the world this new DC series is set.

However, Krypton isn’t a standard DC show. It’s a prequel, telling the story of Superman’s grandfather. It’s even created a world that’s standalone to the original Superman movies and comics. This is an alternate timeline, with Clark Kent’s grandfather tasked to fix problems to help make sure Superman exists in the future.

Something that happens in Krypton could have an effect on the Arrowverse worlds if all shows existed within the same universe. It’s all about the butterfly effect. The Flash and Arrow have already shown issues surrounding something like that. When Barry changed the past, John Diggle suddenly had a son instead of a daughter. Little elements changed in the worlds–and some of them for seemingly no reason at all. Things could have been a lot messier (thank God they weren’t!) but they were messy enough to show why having multiple shows in the same universe doesn’t always work.

Krypton can exist in a plane all by itself. It’s a chance to explore someone different within the Superman universe, without affecting anything going on in the present day timeline. There’s no need to explain why memories change on shows when we all remember the actual events from the last few years of the Arrowverse shows.

Keep Krypton away from the Arrowverse series. This doesn’t just protect the Arrowverse from changes but also helps to keep the Superman prequel pushing forward on its own two feet.
