Becky finds that getting older is not easy.

This was a very emotional episode. The crew pays tribute to the death of Mark (Glenn Quinn). We also find that it’s difficult to hide your age and sometimes having a dog means adopting a family member.

In the opening scene, Becky opens the front door with her new pet Armani. A dog who belongs to her in her new home that the $50,000 is going to bring. In the process, D.J. finds out that his belief of being allergic to dogs was a ploy by Roseanne so that they could never have one in the first place. I guess he forgot his reaction to the dog in Season 4, “Why Jackie Becomes a Trucker.”

Becky, on her way to meet Andrea, and runs into her mother. She lets her know why she has the dog and she is on the way to the clinic. Roseanne strictly tells her that she doesn’t want to know because she is against the idea. She even tries to scare her daughter by saying “Conner babies have huuuge heads. You had an uncle, who never even got out.”

Becky and Jackie are waiting at the hospital when Andrea arrives bearing a Faberge Egg. Unfortunately, it is learned that Becky has the eggs of an older woman and not the 33-year old she lied to Andrea about. Due to the complications of those eggs, she only has a 5% chance of having a child. It is now time to part ways.

Arriving back at the Conners, Beck runs into Roseanne. Jackie has informed her of the news, and she feels devastated that Becky will never have children. Roseanne confronts her daughter to comfort, but she just wasn’t going to have it.

At the La Casita Bonita (Becky’s work) sister bonding is going on. Darlene learns that she didn’t get the job at Build-A-Bear and finds out she is not Build-A-Bear material. Here, Becky tells her sister that she and Mark tried several times to have a child, but were never successful. When Mark passed away, she was no longer interested and never met anyone that filled that need. Both Dan and Roseanne arrive after the sisters have drunk a few Margaritas.

At first, Becky doesn’t want to hear anything from her mother. It all changes, when Roseanne says: “Sometimes, I’m a selfish old woman.” She is regretful that she didn’t go to the doctors or be there for her daughter. Becky is distraught and tells Roseanne, that she cannot have children. There are answers to every problem. In this scenario, Becky is reminded that her mother had children in her forties and doctors can be wrong. Also, miracles can arrive “when you least expect it and the least prepared for it.”

The show concludes with a nice tribute to actor Glenn Quinn.

Notes:

  • Armani was eventually rescued by Jackie and Roseanne after Becky had to giver him back due to apartment regulations. Jackie will hold on to him until Becky finds her way.
  • We finally got another three-second glimpse of D.J. hopefully next week we will have more.
  • Both D.J. and Jackie have lacking characters. I guess this is an issue for a show as deep as this with very little time.
  • Best line: When Dan confronts Roseanne on leaving Becky alone. “You’re going to stop interfering with Becky, and you’re going to do it NOW!!” Dan gets a moment of pride, then realizes the wife-storm is about to start.
