Learning that, despite seeming like super heroes, those you depend on most are human too is hard. So how do you deal? Here’s what happened this week on Mom.

Christy, on the phone with Bonnie, gets frustrated while shopping for groceries because her mother can’t remember the name of the actor who’s face is on the jar of spaghetti she likes. There she sees Marjorie throwing a tantrum at the deli counter, acting more uptight than usual over thinly-sliced, reduced sodium ham.

Concerned to see her sponsor melt down in public, Christy tells the group what she saw. When Marjorie gets there she reveals to everyone that she just did something horrible at the store; she bought cookies instead of making them for the meeting.

Over dessert at their usual after-meeting spot, Marjorie snaps at Jill over not knowing what a Groupon was. Saying nothing was wrong after they inquired, Marjorie is obviously torn about something. Once Christy informs her that she knows what happened at the deli, Marjorie grows very defensive.

Changing the subject, Jill asks Christy why she didn’t call the shoe salesman  who gave her his number. Saying it wouldn’t be right because she just broke up with Patrick, Christy shrugs it off. Next Bonnie confesses that Patrick told Adam he was seeing other people now. Christy completely flips out, and the two argue all the way home.

Once there, they drag Adam into it. Initially, he refuses to tell Christy any more, letting her vent to him. But, he accidentally lets it slip that Patrick is taking some other woman to Costa Rica on a vacation. This was the same vacation he had promised her. Unable to call on Marjorie, Christy hits up the shoe salesman she met with Jill.

Using Wendy’s Groupon, the group gets foot massages together that weekend. In the middle of the massage, Christy and Marjorie get into it over whether or not the former is taking the latter’s advice. Clearly done with the situation, Marjorie gets up and storms out of the massage parlor as fast as she can with slippery feet. In the lobby, the two decide Marjorie is no longer fit to be Christy’s sponsor due to the fact that she doesn’t want to speak with her any longer.

Finding a new sponsor in the exceedingly strict Nora, played by guest star Yvette Nicole Brown (Community), Christy learns there’s gonna be a few more rules in this relationship. After suggesting that she skip her date with the shoe salesman, Nora encourages Christy to forget about whether or not she is using him as a rebound and to give it a shot.

Paying her daughter’s former sponsor a visit, Bonnie, in a way only she can, shows concern over how things ended between Marjorie and Christy. Expressing surprise over how fast Christy found someone new, Marjorie reveals she has yet to find a new one after her sponsor relapsed over a year ago. Worried that Marjorie’s stubborn personality will get in the way of her reaching out for help, Bonnie wonders how she can make a positive difference.

At a meeting the next day, Christy tells Nora that her date was really boring and how she didn’t want to go out with him again. Saying she should give him another shot, Nora suggests Christy’s perceived “lack of spark” might just be a sign that he is a safe choice, unlike the usual unavailable men she is usually attracted to, and that if she went on another, more open minded date, there might be something there she didn’t see the first time.

When the meeting opens up for shares, Marjorie raises her hand and goes to the podium. Telling everyone how hard it is to be struggling after so many years sober, Marjorie reveals that she hates being reduced to being looked at as just another old woman. Going on, she explains that when the deli counter person skipped her number in line she just snapped. After thanking Bonnie for helping her see that she can’t do it alone, she sat back down to thunderous applause.

At the bistro that night Christy and Marjorie are set up so that they got there before everyone else. There, Marjorie apologizes for being a pain in the ass. The two make up, but Christy decides that she is going to stick with her new sponsor.

Seeing Marjorie struggle with coming to terms with her age was heartbreaking. I’m glad she was able to ends things on a good note with Christy. How long will Christy be able to keep up with all of Nora’s rules though?

Will Bonnie continue to evolve into a respectable, compassionate human being? What do you think? Let us know what your predictions are for next week’s episode of Mom in the comment section below!
