The Big Bang Theory Season 11, episode 22 recap
By John Dotson
This week on Big Bang Theory, Sheldon hopes to fundraise 500 million dollars for his scientific study. Find out how it all shapes out on the latest episode!
Last week brought some conflicts between the gang including an uncomfortable moment between Raj, Penny, as well as Leonard. The show even had a massive cameo by Neil Gaiman, but everyone went the whole episode without noticing him.
This week did not touch on those subjects or try to pin down what may be the issue with Raj. However, we did get some momentum on the Sheldon-Amy wedding, and it was a very touching way to move things forward.
Here is what happened on tonight’s episode of The Big Bang Theory!

Sheldon needs money
The episode begins with Sheldon discussing the university’s lack of responsibility with their funding. Raj returns from a social mixer from the school which ignites Sheldon’s frustration with the campus spending. Sheldon believes they need to use the money for more experiments like his. Leonard believes Sheldon’s project is too abstract to be funded but makes a suggestion to attempt creating a contained microscopic black hole. This inspires Sheldon to find the budget to perform his experiment. The only problem is according to his estimate, the experiment will cost 500 million dollars.
Sheldon consults Amy and Penny about his ambitious plan, to which they explain sometimes getting such a goal requires years of patience. She then makes a joking reference to her waiting eight long years for something to happen–which I think is in reference to how long it took him to propose. If so, the subtle joke flies over Sheldon’s head.
The next scene has Sheldon going to the campus to ask for his budget for performing the study. As the scene pushes forward, the person in charge keeps asking the amount, and Sheldon keeps hinting the number is higher. We then see Sheldon back home and unsurprisingly the audience finds out they refused to grant him 500 million dollars.
Sheldon then begins exploring other options such as Kickstarter, but the only issue is Sheldon has questionable perks for the donations. Leonard is quick to point out that no one is going to give Sheldon 50,000 dollars to examine their diet or a million to tell them what issues they have.
Sheldon now desperate for options decides to sell his sacred comic collection to Stuart at his store. This leads to Sheldon having to put his OCD nature aside so Stuart can open the packaging to check their condition. The only problem is Sheldon has to leave because watching them get appraised is too much for him.
After getting some bad advice from Raj, Sheldon then tries to make one last valiant attempt at getting the money he needs by going to Las Vegas to gamble. He attempts to use his scientific wit to predict a winning choice but the security in the casino catches him in the act. The end result gets Sheldon banned from entering the casino again– maybe even all casinos in Vegas.
The Wedding Dress
While Sheldon was trying to fundraise his ludicrous amount of money, Amy and the girls were out shopping for the wedding dress. This all starts with her trying on conventional style dresses that look very good on her. Penny and Bernadette approve of almost all the dresses until Amy settles on one she likes–and the dress looks ridiculous.
Penny and Bernadette sit down together and discuss confronting her about the dress. Bernadette says it’s a bad idea and that no one likes to hear they are making a bad decision. Penny says she is worried not being honest will hurt Amy’s wedding. Bernadette agrees to confront her as a unit about the dress. Once they sit down with Amy though, Penny tells the truth and Bernadette chickens out. Leaving Penny out there alone high and dry.
This eventually leads to Penny and Amy sitting down together to discuss the dress. Amy tells her that Penny’s opinion matters to her more than most because she is the best-dressed friend she has. Penny expresses what she realized, which is Amy needs to pick what works for her, not the dress that would work for Penny.
The end of the episode concludes with Sheldon returning from his failed trip to Vegas and walking in on Amy wearing the dress. He is immediately glowing and says she looks beautiful. This makes Amy officially choose her wedding dress.

Final Thoughts
Not an eventful episode this week but it’s always fun to see Sheldon get overly ambitious on an idea. The highlight of the episode was clearly all the wedding stuff and will probably be the only thing moving the plot forward weekly. The wedding dress moment between Sheldon and Amy was a very sweet way to conclude the episode though. Hopefully, we see more of the wedding details in the weeks ahead.
