After tonight’s new episode of The Simpsons, it will be the longest running TV show ever. Season 29, episode 18, “Forgive and Regret” will be the 636th episode. That is both an amazing and ridiculous amount of episodes. Whoever would have thought, when The Simpsons first started, that it would go so far?
It will surpass Gunsmoke, which currently holds the record for a longest running TV show. Gunsmoke was a CBS network Western drama that started on the radio in 1952 before moving over as to a TV series. It ran from 1955 to 1975 and aired a total of 635 episodes.
