Bob’s Burgers looks toward summer in this week’s episode in which Tina tries something new and the restaurant makes some upgrades.

Summer is here on Bob’s Burgers and the Belchers are spending in different ways. There’s Tina trying to become a lifeguard while the restaurant makes a modern move. As the 2nd Tina-centric episode in 3 weeks, the crew must be confident in this week’s plotline. They rarely disappoint but we’ll see.

If you haven’t watched “Boywatch,” there will be spoilers from this week’s Bob’s Burgers episode.

This week’s Bob’s Burgers begins with the kids hanging out on the beach. They aren’t having fun until Tina sees a group of boys rolling in the sand. She talks to them, finding out they’re junior lifeguards but they don’t have any openings.

Right when they ran to the water, one of the other kids falls and hurts her leg so Tina takes her spot. The next day at the beach, Tina start with the work lifeguards and unfortunately, doesn’t know what to do. Each day, she gets getting worse and worse, because she won’t pay attention because of the boys and everyone gets punished because of it.

The squad asks her to quit but talks herself out of it because “she’s not a quitter.” She tries her hardest the next day and gets a compliment. The rest of the week, Tina keeps trying but the one guy doesn’t believe her. Tina agrees to save someone or she’ll quit the junior lifeguards.

Because of the challenge, everyone fails out. Once she gets home, Tina explains she enjoyed the group. To redeem herself, Tina gets the group back together and they help avoid a beach emergency.

At the restaurant, the customers ask for Wi-Fi and Bob explains he doesn’t have free Wi-Fi for the restaurant. The customers use the family’s and Linda says they need to get free Wi-Fi thus earning more customers.

Once they advertise the free Wi-Fi, the customers only come in to use it. Bob and Linda end up missing the customer interactions because of the Wi-Fi. Officer Bosco comes to the restaurant to catch a hacker on their network and the rest of the family decides to help him.

Back at the restaurant, Louise and Gene try to help Bosco find the hacker. They find out the hacker was the soccer mom and Bosco comes back to get help with his computer.

The episode ends with the group standing up for Tina and they realize the lifeguard instructor planned the two events on the same day. He agrees to let them all graduate and Tina jumps after he promises they can make sugar cookies in the sand.

“Boywatch” was an incredibly fun episode to bring in spring. It featured a unique Tina-centric plot not focused on boys. Sometimes, I think the show gets in a funk with that but this time, it was good. Tina matured and realized it wasn’t worth it.

As for the plot with the restaurant’s free Wi-fi, it was a surprisingly funny addition. It was a good break from the “seriousness” of Tina’s plot. The way Bob and Linda reacted to the lack of customer interaction was hilarious.

“Boywatch” brought out the best in each Belcher family member. We saw Tina make friends and take an interest after everyone doubted her. She also saved the day so that was awesome. As for Bob and Linda, they showed their passion for the restaurants and their customers. Lastly, Gene and Louise were there for comedic relief with their one-liners.

Overall, this was another fun episode in season 8. With two episodes airing next week, there’s a lot to look forward to. However, if they are half as funny or full of character development, it’s going to be a good week.

I give “Boywatch” a B+

Bob’s Burgers airs Sundays on Fox at 7:30/6:30c.
