Sylvester Stallone is making Rambo V.

We all know Stallone isn’t shy about making his sequels. Rocky had six, and if you include Creed it will now be eight, Expendables is coming on its fourth, and now Rambo will have its fifth installment. The man understands what works and how to deliver at minimal an enjoyable film.

Stallone will be the lead, while Matthew Cirulnick (Paid in Full, Absentia) is writing the script. There is no news on who the director will be. There have been rumors over the last few years that Rambo would be handing down the reigns to a protege in a Fox television movie. That isn’t any longer in the works. Filming will take place in London, Bulgaria, and the Canary Islands.

According to Fandango.com

"John Rambo is now living on a ranch in Arizona suffering from PTSD. He’s not retired, though, as he struggles to find the occasional odd job. When the granddaughter of a family friend goes missing across the border, he crosses into Mexico to save her from a sex-trafficking ring. Along the way, he teams up with a journalist whose sister has also been kidnapped."

What seems familiar is the title and the basis of the story. In 2011, a screenplay by  Sean Hood, who wrote the Conan the Barbarian remake, is out to pasture, with the title Rambo: The Last Stand. At that time Stallone mentioned “I’m dying to do another Rambo. He’s in Arizona on the border. It will involve him going into Mexico. I don’t think Rambo likes Mexicans.”

All of that went out the window when Arnold Schwarzenegger made the film The Last Stand. About a sheriff (Ray Owens) at the border of Mexico fighting a leader of a drug cartel. Owens and his misfit gang try to stop the baddies from taking over.

Stallone went as far as to mention that Rambo would die in this final film. Rambo will now be full-circle since he was to die in the first film at the hands of Colonel Trautman.

Killing off major characters is not a new concept for Sylvester Stallone. His original plan for Rocky V was to die. Of course, studios balked at the plan. Also, Stallone loves to play off current politics. With Trump and his need to build a wall, Rambo V fighting Mexicans could go hand-in-hand.

Another aspect of the film is that IMDb has no record of it. That’s not the biggest of deals, but as big as this film is and the plot laid out; you would it assume it would have its listing. But as of May 7, there is just news of it.

Next: Creed Update

As much as the new Rambo film sounds like a mixture of The Last Stand and Taken, I’m sure Stallone will have his input and make it unique. Especially, being the last Rambo film. The man is closing in on 72-years old and just recently said there would not be another.
