In the latest episode of the Deadliest Catch, Sig Hansen is pranked by his crew, while other boats break down.

Last week on Deadliest Catch, the Northwestern captain redeemed himself by finding a record amount of crab, while the Cornelia Marie dealt with crew injuries. This week, both crews move forward.

This week on the Deadliest Catch, season 14, episode 5, entitled “Collison Void,” Captain Sig is pranked, while two other boats experience costly repairs that could sink their profits.

The Northwestern crew pranks Sig Hansen

Sig is on the crab and is over 90 percent from his quota. Now the boat is close to head back to the cannery and call it a season. An excited Captain Sig is ready to get some well-deserved rest, and letting little brother Edgar take over the helm.

The deck chief is known for his pranks and decides this is a good time to rile up the surly captain. Edgar Hansen knows nothing can set off Captain Sig more than any news about his daughters.

Edgar enlists Sig’s new son-in-law Clark Pederson, currently the Northwestern greenhorn, to “poke the bear.” Despite not wanting to play along with riling up Mandy’s father, he knows that he cannot deny Edgar this favor. This is part of being the lowest man in the ship’s hierarchy.

Clark goes in to see Sig and tells him that he got a text from Mandy, and she is pregnant.

Sig is absolutely furious! He points out that Mandy was going to be the captain of a “big boat,” and that she still has school. Sig, who was filmed having a serious heart attack on the Deadliest Catch nearly two years ago, looked like he was about to have another widow maker.

Meanwhile, the Northwestern gang, led by the devious Edgar, was outside of the room, laughing hysterically. Clark finally breaks and confesses the joke to Sig. The Northwestern captain explodes even further before chasing Clark out of the room, threatening retribution.

Good fishing, but bad luck for the Wizard

Keith Colburn has been on the crab this season, but the experienced captain feels that the boat is not working as it should. Checking with his engineer, he discovers that there is a huge problem in the collision void, at the most forward part of the hull of the boat. Instead of a small bit of air, it is full of water, and this could sink the boat if the engineer doesn’t solve this problem asap.

Immediately, the fishing has stopped so that the crew can remove the water. Captain Keith inspects the collision void and discovers that it was just put in wrong, and not a structural problem.

Unfortunately, this cannot be said for Captain Keith. He has some sort of mystery illness that doctors cannot solve, and he is waiting for answers.

Jake Anderson is dealing with his own problems

Captain Keith’s short-lived protege has been having issues finding crab. His confidence is low and then the deck is filled with oil from a serious hydraulics leak. Then, there is a mad rush to clean the oil from the deck, before the crew can work again. The specific hose they need is not found. Jake radios another boat that has the needed part and the Saga is able to get back to work, keeping this from being a costly return back to Dutch.

The Cornelia Marie is equipped to fish again

The Cornelia Marie co-captains Josh Harris and Casey McManus have returned to Dutch to seek medical help for two crew members that were injured last week. Both men are checked out by the doctors and are deemed fit to work again. This a huge relief to Josh and Casey, as finding new crew member is time-consuming and could prevent them from making their all-important quota.
