FOX is on a cancellation spree at the moment, possibly making room for new pilots. The latest to receive the chopping block is Lucifer after three seasons.

Lucifer Season 4 is officially not happening. The show about the devil living in Los Angeles as a private investigator has been canceled by FOX, possibly making room for pilots coming to the network for the next season. The news broke through Twitter, when Tom Ellis, who plays the titular character, announced the sad decision.

It’s a massive shock for many fans. While the ratings had dropped, they certainly weren’t too low to secure another season. Plus, this is a show that has a huge online following. Fans tuned in week-after-week to watch Lucifer Morningstar help his Detective Chloe Decker solve cases.

More from FOX

The news comes just days before the Lucifer Season 3 finale. Now many fans will tune in to commiserate with the exit of the loveable devil, as he (hopefully) finds out someone’s desires for the final time. Considering the episode has already been shot before knowledge of the cancellation, it will be interesting to see how it ends. The previous two seasons had ended with cliffhangers, so is this the way the year’s will end?

Fans are already, understandably, calling for another network to pick Lucifer back up for a fourth season. This follows from FOX’s cancellation of Brooklyn Nine-Nine yesterday after five seasons, with Netflix and Hulu among streaming services already considering the cop comedy. Is there a chance the devil will find a new home?

The shocking cancellations follow The Brave, which has been axed after one season. Despite low numbers, it was another show with a strong following. It looks like social media and delayed viewings just aren’t enough for the networks.
