Crab fishing again proves that it is the deadliest job on the planet, as the Deadliest Catch crews face dangerous storms. Jake Anderson and the Cornelia Marie captains try everything to fulfill their quotas. In the Deadliest Catch season 14, episode 6, entitled Arctic Hurricane, the captains are tested in every way.

Last week, Sig Hansen proved he is the top captain of the Bering Sea as he found yet another honey hole. Despite a nasty prank by his new son-in-law and Northwestern greenhorn, Clark Pederson, who was egged on by Edgar Hansen, Captain Sig shows who was boss.

Despite excellent fishing, Captain Keith was battling his health and some issues on the boat that could take the Wizard down if this was not resolved.

What is the latest news with the rest of the Deadliest Catch fleet?

Karmic payback for Sean Dwyer?

The Brenna A captain notices that the weather is going to be more dangerous than normal. He gets the crew to drop pots, and they head out of dodge as fast as possible, to get to safety, while the pots soak a while.

When things get calmer, Captain Sean and crew return to back to pull the pots and bring home their haul, there is huge disappointment. The pots are virtually empty.

Is this a karmic payback for Captain Sean?

Earlier in the season, he partnered up with the Cornelia Marie captains. Yet, when he found good fishing, he ignored their calls, angering the other two captains. Captain Casey had then commented that no one was going to help Dwyer again, and that comment could certainly foreshadow Sean’s season.

The arctic hurricane stops Wild Bill

While Wild Bill’s estranged son Zach is grinding it out with Sean on the Brenna A, the Summer Bay captain is having some of his own woes. Earlier in the season, Wichrowski has some good luck with crab callers. and although he claims this his the worst start of his career, he seems to be pulling up some good looking crab.

Yet, after a string of dangerous waves nearly harms the crew, the surly captain knows that this is not worth taking a risk on his men or the boat, so he heads towards safety, making this fishing season that much longer.

Jake Anderson proves to himself that he has captain skills

The Saga captain started out the season by irritating his longtime mentor Sig Hansen, then later, he was being coached by Keith Colburn, but the reward for following the Wizard Captain’s advice was empty pots, and Jake was angry.

Deciding he was going to go his own way, Jake Anderson decides to gamble on a spot south of the rest of the fleet. Now he has purposely put his crew into the direct line of the dangerous storm, taking an even bigger risk.

Not so fast. Now, what is slowing down the Saga s the discovery that a crew member didn’t properly secure the stack of pots. With 60 mph winds impacting the Saga, Jake Anderson quickly gets his deckhands to secure the pots, as this situation could be dangerous, even fatal to the boat. He then heads out to fish. Jake’s gamble pays off, as pots and pots of good, clean crab are pulled up and the stress of making his quota is behind him.

Over the years, the coming of age story of Jake Anderson has been been a key storyline on the Deadliest Catch. For many fans, watching him succeed on his own has to be rewarding to those who have long supported him, and redeeming to those who previously gave up on the young captain.

Cornelia Marie captains Josh Harris and Casey McManus succeed

This has been a rocky start for the return of Captain Phil Harris’ oldest son. First, the Cornelia Marie co-captains were burned by their short term partnership with Sean Dwyer.

Then, a couple of serious crew injuries forced the captains to return to Dutch to care for their crew. Now a storm is a-brewing, and they are nowhere near reaching their quotas. This all spells disaster.

Working seamlessly as a team, the two captains quickly set out their last pots before they are forced to escape the dangerous weather. The entire Cornelia Marie crew is jubilant when the pots come up better than expected, filled with good-looking crab! Josh flashes his million dollar smile, as the crew celebrates. Sometimes good guys do finish first!
