Supernatural Season 3 premiere recap: Meet the Seven Deadly Sins
The Seven Deadly sins rear their ugly heads in the Supernatural Season 3 premiere. Here’s a look back at the episode that started the attempts to save Dean from Hell.
After the summer break, Supernatural Season 3 kicked off with the Seven Deadly Sins. This was possibly our first hint that angels really would appear later, as there are multiple mentions of lust, pride, gluttony, jealousy, greed, anger, and sloth in the Bible. However, up to this point, we had no idea and this was the season to save Dean from Hell.
Here’s a look back at the episode to see all the clues that Dean was never going to be saved. By the way, this is the first episode to see someone other than Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki get series regular credit. Katie Cassidy and Lauren Cohan came into the series this season and got the credit, with Cassidy showing up first.

Set just a couple of weeks after the Gates of Hell had been opened and thousands of demons had escaped, we pick up with the demons finding their hosts. One chooses Walter Rosen, who is just putting his garbage out when he sees the cloud of demons and is possessed.
As for the Winchesters, Sam is on a mission to save Dean from the crossroads deal, while Dean is simply trying to live his life. Bobby also has news that there is no news so far. But strange storm clouds have appeared over 17 cities and there is a case of a family starving to death. When the Winchesters and Bobby get to the farmhouse of the victims, they realize there was a fridge full of food. They were too lazy to get up!

The group doesn’t have time to search properly when a husband and wife hunter duo jump them. Isaac and Tamara don’t want the Winchesters’ help since they were the ones that let the demons out. Maybe they should have taken help, though, as the two walk into a bar where the Seven Deadly Sins are hanging out. Isaac is touched on the hand by gluttony and is forced to drink a bottle of drain cleaner, killing him.
The Winchesters and Bobby save Tamara and take Walter, which gives them the chance to find out they are definitely dealing with the Seven Deadly Sins.
Exorcising the demon
It turns out Envy is possessing Walter, who taunts the group that they are all full of the sins. Dean is filled with gluttony and lust, while Tamara is filled to the brim with anger. When Tamara has had enough of torturing the demon, she exorcises it, killing Walter in the process.
Now they need to take on the rest of the demons, knowing they’ll come to them. Despite setting up a salt line, Tamara breaks it to rush to a possessed Isaac, who is calling out to Tamara for help. Tamara knows it’s a trap, but she just wants to stab the demon possessing her husband. However, the broken salt line allows the other in.
Fortunately, there are plenty of other traps in the house to take care of the demons. While everyone finds themselves trapped, a woman walks in and kills two of the demons with a knife and then, with Sam’s help, kills a third. She doesn’t say her name, but we now know her as Ruby. This was the woman watching the Winchesters. The Winchesters and Bobby are able to round up the remaining Sins and exorcise them.
Dean refuses to be helped
At the very end, Sam shares that he may have found a way to help Dea. There’s a hoodoo priestess in Louisiana who may be able to help. However, Dean refuses. While he’s allowed Sam to look for now, he makes it clear that he isn’t going to wiggle his way out of his deal. If he does, then Sam dies and he won’t have that.
While Sam tells Dean that Dean is being selfish, Dean just accepts it. And now he wants to enjoy his last year as much as he can.
