Shadowhunters fans strategically planned for the #ShadowhuntersPlane to circle Netflix for 3 hours last Friday, but they didn’t know it would also be seen from the show’s writers room.

The Shadowhunters fandom has unified and rallied together over the past several weeks to fight for a fourth season pick-up. Inspired by fans from other series that were also canceled (and revived) this year, Shadowhunters fans have used Twitter power-hours, strategic messaging and emailing with networks, and have now kicked their marketing up a notch. And when I say “up,” I mean sky-high.

On Friday June 22, Shadowhunters fans eagerly awaited the next big step in their campaign to try and #SaveShadowhunters, and it involved taking their hashtag (which is closing in on 9 million tweets) to the skies. After organizing an online fundraiser, they hired an airplane to circle the Netflix building in Los Angeles. The “Shadowhunters plane” circled the network’s offices for three hours in an effort to make a statement about their love for the show.

Even the airplane ads company was excited to try and #SaveShadowhunters:

Netflix didn’t comment on whether or not they saw the plane, but fans who were chatting with customer support representatives while the plane was in the air said that they were aware of the aerial ad.

What fans didn’t realize in their Netflix-targeted planning, however, was that the show’s writers room (which is currently working on the 2-hour series finale) was also in sight of the plane banner. Even if the #ShadowhuntersPlane is unsuccessful at getting a season 4 pick-up, it was absolutely successful in showing the cast, writers, and creative team just how much they are loved and supported.

Here are just a few of the tweets posted by the Shadowhunters team last Friday:

Aerial ads and Twitter trends aside, the most impressive and inspiring effort to come from the #SaveShadowhunters campaign is the continuing fundraiser for The Trevor Project, which has now crossed $16,000. Donations are still open, and you can visit the site to make a donation today.
