Zac & Mia is a mini-series about two teens going through variations of cancer and chemotherapy.

Many relate the series to the novel and movie The Fault In Our Starswritten by John Green and directed by John Boone. The novel and movie also depict two teenagers dealing with cancer, in a very similar way to Zac & Mia.

Zac & Mia features two teens, one who has been dealing with cancer for a very long time and has a low chance of survival (Zac), and one who has just been admitted with a small tumor in her leg (Mia). Here’s a look into each of the protagonists’ lives.

Zac had his whole life ahead of him, and mostly everything planned. He’s a logical guy, he considered every variable in the equation of his life. Besides, of course, cancer. When it hit him, it struck him like a bolt of lightning. He had been diagnosed with stage 4 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which granted him about 55% chance of survival. This caused him to spiral into dark Internet worm-holes, obsessing over cancer facts and data. He was trapped in this room forever and therefore trapped in the dark depths of his mind. That is…until he met Mia.

Mia

Mia was your average stuck-up, popular girl. She had the posse, the hot boyfriend, and the “social media presence.” Thousands of followers on every platform that followed her every move. But what they didn’t know? Her infamous modeling trip to New York was actually a dreary staycation at the hospital for a tumor in her leg. Although as Zac says, “she had won the cancer lottery,” Mia didn’t want anyone to know. She didn’t want to become “the sick girl.” She wanted to be Mia, amazing, beautiful, perfect, future prom queen. But somehow things changed, with cancer and the boy next door.

The actress that plays Mia, Anne Winters, won a Daytime Emmy for “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Digital Daytime Drama Series” for her work in the series.

The show only has 12 episodes total, none being any longer than 15 minutes long. Zac & Mia was first released in November of 2017, produced by AwesomenessTV but aired on go90. The series won a Daytime Emmy Award this year for “Outstanding Writing in a Digital Drama Series.” It is also based on a book by the same name, released in 2013 by A.J. Betts.
