It’s back to the singing competition on Nashville Season 6, Episode 13 and Brad wants Daphne to do something different. Meanwhile, Avery and Juliette need to decide what’s next.

Nashville Season 6, Episode 13 picks up right where the last episode left us. Juliette has made it home, only to walk in on Avery and Alannah on the couch. We were left wondering all week about how she’d react after everything she’s been through. I’ve got to say, her actions pleasantly surprised me. As bad as the cult was, there was something good that came out of it.

Meanwhile, it’s all about Daphne and the singing competition. Ilse and Brad want her to step out of her comfort zone. She needs to if she wants to see her votes increasing and win the competition. However, is she going to do something that she really hates?

As for Scarlett, she learns exactly what the veterans face at the VA Center. What can she do to help?

Juliette takes the high road

More from Drama

Tired from the journey and relieved to make it home, Juliette doesn’t act as you would think when she catches Avery and Alannah together. She’s mature, making it clear that she never expected Avery to wait for her with the way she left things. Instead, she says that she’ll go somewhere else and picks up her bags to head to Hallie’s.

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen Hallie, but it’s the friendly face that Juliette needs right now. There’s absolutely no judgment or fake sympathy when Juliette explains what happened. Hallie is also impressed with how calm Juliette is. That place did do her some good, but how could it be so hurtful at the same time?

When Juliette returns home the next day, Avery makes it clear that he is going to leave. After all, the house is Juliette’s. He doesn’t even seem interested in the fact that the people were held there as prisoners or that it was a cult. Something about that felt odd for me, but I’ll let it slide for now. Avery has been hurt so much by Juliette’s actions, it’s not overly surprising that he doesn’t quite trust this new version of her.

What I am happy about is that Juliette doesn’t bring up the pregnancy. She’ll have to eventually, but she doesn’t use it as a way to make him stay. This isn’t the time to bring up that conversation yet and it would seem a little like manipulation. She’s also very early on and has been under a lot of stress to get home. She’ll likely want to double check things before saying anything first.

In the end, Avery decides to move out. It’s sad, but this is definitely what the two need for now. Considering Avery is such a good dad and hands-on with Cadence, they’re going to keep crossing paths and hopefully, they’ll get back together soon. These two need to be Nashville‘s endgame.

Daphne steps out of her comfort zone

In the rehearsals for the competition, Brad and Isle want Daphne to sing without her guitar. They–well, Brad–pressures her to step up in the competition. He clearly has other motives, but Isle just wants the best for Daphne. She doesn’t want Daphne to be sexy; just to connect with the audience.

It’s hard and Daphne fights against it as much as possible. Ilse pays Deacon a visit at Highway 65 to encourage him to talk to Daphne about it. She also brings up that Daphne missed a rehearsal and that’s not good.

Of course, Deacon’s father is causing a few problems in the house, contradicting Deacon a lot. Deacon overhears his dad telling Daphne to “talk back to him” and assumes he means Deacon. Who he actually meant was Brad.

In the end, Daphne decides it’s time to step out from the guitar and connect with the audience. When performing an original song, she gets a standing ovation. It looks like she’s safe in the competition for now.

Scarlett continues to help Sean

Meanwhile, Sean’s wife calls Scarlett for help. Sean refuses to go to the VA Center for treatment for his PTSD because he’s scared of what it will mean for his family. Of course, the services are confidential but Sean doesn’t believe that. Scarlett manages to get him to go, only to realize that the place is packed and there are very few people there to help.

It’s not the Center’s fault. They’re doing everything they can with the resources they have. If Scarlett wants to change something, she needs to speak to Washington. Of course, it’s not that easy.

When she realizes that Sean has left without treatment, she goes after him. Sean brings up that Scarlett is also hiding and it’s time to face everything head-on herself. This conversation does lead to Scarlett finally picking up her notebook again and writing a song.

Alannah deals with Brad

Finally, it’s all about Alannah. Her life is crumbling around her. First Juliette returns and that means she believes it’s time to walk away from Avery. Of course, she’s sad about that but she thinks so little of herself that she doesn’t think everyone can be happy.

However, Brad is the one causing problems. He makes it clear that her songs aren’t good enough and sends her demos of others’ songs. She doesn’t think they sound like her and she wants to create her own identity as a musician. Brad just wants to sell records.

This isn’t going to end well.
