Even without a panel, autograph signing, or activation at San Diego Comic-Con, Twitter reported #Shadowhunters was the fifth most-tweeted show during SDCC.

By the angel, we think the #SaveShadowhunters campaign is going to love this. @TwitterTV reported today that Shadowhunters was the fifth most-tweeted show during San Diego Comic-Con. Freeform did not bring the series to SDCC like it had done in 2017, but even without a panel, autograph signing, or immersive activation, the show was still incredibly popular on Twitter.

We’re not sure if the show is this popular every day regardless (Comic-Con or no Comic-Con), but the news is extra exciting for fans who brought the show to SDCC by themselves.

Fans rallied to organize two pedicabs in the Gaslamp District that were covered in angelic runes and had #SaveShadowhunters printed on them, and they didn’t just get the attention of fans and news outlets. Actor Jack Yang, who plays Asmodeus on the series, visited the pedicabs (dressed as his character) on Saturday evening and took a ride through San Diego.

3 million tweets were sent out in relation to Comic-Con, and only four other shows beat out Shadowhunters, with The Clone Wars taking the number one spot. Behind Star Wars was Doctor Who, The Walking Dead, and Voltron (where fans were treated to a surprise screening of the season 7 premiere episode).

Following Shadowhunters were series that also all had panels at the convention: Arrow, Brooklyn 99, Wynonna Earp, Supergirl, and The Flash.

More from Comic Con

Freeform did have a presence at San Diego Comic-Con 2018 to promote season 2 of its original series Siren, and a joint effort with Marvel TV to bring Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger.

Both shows had a panel, with Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger also building an immersive activation where attendees could recreate a stunt scene from the show.

With Shadowhunters not set to premiere until Spring 2019, we’re hoping that the series will still have a formal presence at New York Comic Con in October or WonderCon in March, but we’re pretty certain the fandom will bring the show even if the network does not.

With 13 million tweets total, the #SaveShadowhunters campaign is still going strong, with hopes that the series will be renewed for a fourth season at Freeform or picked up by another network.
