Batwoman is in the early stages of production as CW president Mark Pedowitz gave an update at TCA.

We knew that a Batwoman series was in the works already, but CW president Mark Pedowitz spoke at TCA and provided an update on the series. The focus is to still introduce the character in the big crossover event that we’ve seen from the DC shows on the CW once a year.

Caroline Dries and Greg Berlanti are at the helm of the project, which means it is certainly in good hands. While the Arrowverse has had some ups and downs, there’s no denying that Berlanti has put together an expansive universe with all of the various shows.

The CW has a full slate of just DC shows, with five of them right now. Batwoman being the sixth show might make things a little crowded, but they’re shooting for a mid-season premiere. This way, there is some overlap, but not all of the shows will be on air right at the start of the fall TV season. As reported by Deadline, there’s no indication yet of it going to series, though.

More from CW

"“We’ll do a pilot for mid-season, whether it goes to series, I cannot tell you,” said Pedowitz about the status quo, “We have five (DC shows) on the air and just added a sixth night.”"

I happen to have Batwoman by Greg  Rucka and J.H. Williams III sitting on my desk as this news drops, so I’m clearly ready for this show to happen. I’ve read up a little on Kate Kane’s Batwoman with the recent Detective Comics run, but there’s so much more to the character than the little that I’ve read.

Pedowitz even tip-toed around the question of whether or not Batwoman could be a villain. That would be an interesting take on the character and I’m excited about the possibilities of even having just one player from the Bat-family joining this universe.
