Big Brother 20 recap: Do the houseguests evict Bayleigh or Rockstar?
On Big Brother 20, Haleigh finds herself torn between doing the right thing and saving her game. The evicted houseguest becomes the first member of the jury. The power shifts again after the HoH competition.
Following the Veto Ceremony on Big Brother, Bayleigh feels blindsided. Bayleigh confronts Tyler, questioning what she ever did to him, and he stands beside his belief, along with the rest of Level Six, that Bayleigh is the Hacker. She swears on her life this isn’t the case. If she wanted Tyler out, she could have put him on the block when she was HoH.
Tyler doesn’t care if Bayleigh’s telling the truth or not. She’s still got a Power App and needs to go. There’s no winning with him. Tyler tells Bayleigh to her face that he’s going to vote to evict her.
Bayleigh figures Angela is just looking for any excuse to get rid of her. If Bayleigh wanted to really hijack Angela’s HoH, she could have used her Identity Theft Power, but Bayleigh purposely didn’t utilize it out of respect for the HoH.

As Bayleigh’s friend, Haleigh wants to comfort Bayleigh and tell her the truth. As a player, Haleigh’s in far too deep. She plans to take this secret with her until she leaves the BB house.
Brett’s “Instagranny” punishment stars on Big Brother. It’s the angry reviewer who tortured Rachel, only now he’s dressed up like an old lady (and not very convincingly). “She” follows Brett around the house, giving him no peace and definitely no quiet. Her presence offers a bit of respite from the drama going on in the house.
But Granny’s time in the house can’t last forever, so it’s back to Hacker hell. Bayleigh is convinced that whoever is doing this is evil for letting her take the fall. Haleigh decides her friendship with Bayleigh trumps the game, so she confesses the truth to Bayleigh.
Bayleigh’s upset, but she’s not mad at Haleigh. How can she be when Haleigh is so guilt-ridden and upset? Bayleigh’s angry that everyone else was so quick to throw her under the bus. Haleigh decides she needs to tell the entire house. She knows she’s risking her game, but she can’t sit by and watch and good player and a good friend go home.
Haleigh calls a house meeting to break the news. She tells Tyler she didn’t put him up for personal reasons and lets Angela know it wasn’t her intention to take away her HoH power. Haleigh argues this was her only opportunity to make a move in the game, and she took it. She adds that the previous week, Tyler came to Bayleigh and asked that Angela be backdoored.
This infamous conversation between Bayleigh and Tyler was also Rachel’s undoing. Tyler never said that Bayleigh should backdoor Angela. He was trying to get an idea of who Bayleigh would put up if he used the veto and threw out Angela’s name. It was more of a way to confirm what seemed obvious, but Bayleigh took it as a suggestion.
Tyler’s interpretation is that when he asked if Bayleigh would put up Angela as a replacement nominee, Bayleigh said yes. Bayleigh’s actual response was “probably.” These are two people who didn’t really want to show their cards and wound up completely miscommunicating as a result.
Bayleigh doesn’t get the apology she deserves from anyone. All that happens is a wicked fight between Tyler and Bayleigh. Bayleigh truly loses her mind. This is the reaction we were expecting at the Veto Meeting. This is the Bay we know and love (or love to hate).
This isn’t how Haleigh thought things would go. The goal of the meeting was to keep Bay in the house, but after her outburst, Haleigh isn’t sure Bay’s chances of staying improved.
Tyler’s upset about the accusation that he’s some kind of villain.
If what I’ve seen on the Big Brother live feeds is any indication, the members of Level Six don’t believe Haleigh is the Hacker. Brett’s been playing the other side of the house and feeding information to his alliance. Haleigh and Faysal have been trying to save Bayleigh, but nobody in Level Six wants Bayleigh sticking around with that Power App. Bay’s game really went south once she told Rachel about her advantage.
The time comes for the live vote and eviction on Big Brother. Bayleigh confesses it was her plan to stand up and say a bunch of crazy stuff, but she had a change of heart. She came into the house and fell in love with everyone. She understands that this is a game, and people will do what’s best for themselves moving forward. Bayleigh also apologizes for getting aggressive and yelling at Tyler.
The BB Hacker prevents Tyler from casting a vote.
Kaycee, Brett, Fessy, Scottie, Haleigh and JC vote to evict Bayleigh. Sam votes to evict Rockstar. By a vote of 6-1, Bayleigh is evicted and becomes the first member of the jury.
Julie Chen questions why Bayleigh told Rachel about her power. Bayleigh responds it was an “accident.” Rachel was constantly crying, and Bayleigh was just looking for a way to shut her up.
When it comes to Swaggy, Bayleigh admits she’s in love. Julie breaks the news that Swaggy went to see Bay’s parents, and Bay is ecstatic. She has no doubt her family adores him.
Bayleigh’s final thoughts? Brett is an idiot. He’s the only one who behaved like a total D-bag in his goodbye message.
The HoH comp is called “#HashtagTooLong!” Two at a time, the houseguests face off. They’re shown a long hashtag and three photos. Each hashtag consists of multiple words mashed together. Their goal is to decipher the hashtag and answer it by buzzing in with the correct photo.
The first player to buzz in and answer correctly stays in the game and chooses the next two houseguests to play. If a houseguest answers incorrectly, they’re automatically eliminated, and their opponent will stay in the game and choose the next two competitors. If nobody buzzes in, both houseguests are eliminated, unless it’s the final round.
These are the results:
- JC vs. Sam: Sam is eliminated. JC picks Rockstar and Tyler.
- Rockstar vs. Tyler: Tyler is eliminated. Rockstar chooses Kaycee and Brett.
- Kaycee vs. Brett: Kaycee is eliminated. Brett chooses Haleigh and Fessy.
- Fessy vs. Haleigh: Fessy is eliminated. Haleigh chooses Scottie and Brett.
- Scottie vs. Brett: Scottie is eliminated.
- Haleigh vs. Rockstar: Rockstar is eliminated.
- JC vs. Brett: Brett is eliminated.
- JC vs. Haleigh: JC is eliminated. Haleigh becomes the new HoH.
Big Brother 20 airs Sundays and Wednesdays at 8/7c and Thursdays at 9/8c on CBS. Tune in on Sunday, August 12 to see Haleigh nominates for eviction.
