Supernatural Season 3, Episode 15 recap: Time isn’t on Dean’s side
In the Supernatural Season 3 penultimate episode, Sam believes he’s found a way to save Dean. However, the truth may not be something Dean wants to consider.
Supernatural Season 3, Episode 15, titled “Time Is On My Side,” is one of the greatest episodes in terms of moral ambiguity. It shows the desperation of the brothers, especially of Sam. After a year, he’s still struggling to find a way to save Dean from this crossroad deal and it looks like time is no longer on their side.
As he looks for any way to save his brother, he stumbles across a guy who has managed to cheat death entirely. Is this an option for Dean? Maybe not!

Sam comes across a clipping of a man who was abducted and later showed up at the hospital with his liver removed. It turns out the liver removal was surgical, and that’s not all. Another guy had his kidney removed.
And, get this, all the removals were done with 19th-century surgical skills. Maggots were used to prevent infection and silk was used for stitches. Sam realizes that they may have stumbled upon Doc Benton, a 19th-century surgeon who found a way to live forever. He just needs to replace failing organs now and then and to do that, he abducts healthy people.

Dean searches for Bela
Meanwhile, Bobby has a lead on Bela and it means paying a visit to Rufus Turner. This is our first meeting with the grumpy, sarcastic hunter and yes, the meeting is everything you’d expect. Of course, Sam isn’t happy that Dean has chosen to go after Bela instead of using the Doc’s ways of cheating death.
The Winchesters split up, with Dean bribing Rufus for information with a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue. Of course, Rufus gives up the hotel location and Dean is able to confront Bela. She admits that the Colt is gone. Dean shares that he knows all about Bela’s parents’ deaths when she was 14 and is about to kill her before he sees devil’s shoestring over the door. She’s trying to keep the devil out.
He decides to leave her, but she picks his pocket and gives his motel name to someone on the phone. Meanwhile, Dean learns more about Sam’s case.
Sammy becomes the damsel in distress
This is the point in Supernatural where Sam getting himself in trouble isn’t too bad. It doesn’t happen as often, and this time it’s understandable. While hunting the doc, Sam comes across a cabin. A guy is dead on the table, but there’s another girl alive with some of her skin cut off. The doc attacks, but Sam is able to run his rental keep over the doc.
Sam is able to share that the doc’s ability to cheat death is just science. There’s no magic involved and it could be an option. However, the doc has followed Sam and uses chloroform to abduct him. When Sam wakes, he’s in the cabin and the doc is about to remove his eye.
Dean jumps in to save the day. They manage to put Doc Benton into an older refridgerator and bury him alive.
Bela’s truth is revealed
Finally, we get to learn all about what happened to Bela. After she goes to kill the Winchesters (shooting blowup dolls instead), it’s revealed that Bela was abused by her father and made a deal to have her parents killed. Now her contract is coming due and the Colt was supposed to be the way to get out of that.
However, now this demon wants her to kill Sam and Dean to get out of her contract. Bela also reveals that it’s the same demon that holds Dean’s contract: Lilith.
After Dean hangs up on Bela, the clock strikes midnight and there’s the sound of the hellhounds. Bela is going to Hell.
