Is Supernatural Season 14 the right time for Jo to return?

Alona Tal has hinted she’s ready to return as Jo Harvelle on Supernatural Season 14. Is now the right time for the character to return.

Supernatural Season 14 could see another hunter return from the dead. That is if Alona Tal gets her way. She recently tweeted a hint that she’s interested in returning as Jo Harvelle, who was last seen alive in Season 5 and as a ghost in Season 7.

With so many characters returning from the dead thanks to the Apocalypse World last season, it’s not totally impossible to see Jo back again. One important note to make is that Ash had said he didn’t know Ellen and Jo were dead when the Winchesters came across him in Heaven back in Supernatural Season 5. He hadn’t found their heavens and it’s possible their souls hadn’t made it there.

The question is whether now is the right time. Do fans want to see Jo return from the dead?

It’s a tricky question. Jo was one of those characters loved and hated. Some fans adored her (and her and Dean together) while others didn’t like her character, her attitude, and her relationship with Dean.

Personally, I loved her. Jo was fun, eager to learn, willing to make sacrifices for others, and protective of her own (and her Earth). However, that doesn’t mean I think it’s time for her to come back.

Supernatural Season 13 had too many characters come back from the dead for my liking. We had one after another, whether it was through characters in the Apocalypse World or characters in our own world. A major gripe was that some of the characters weren’t utilized well enough to justify bringing them back (*cough* Kevin *cough*).

I’d be worried that Jo was just coming back for fun and the writers wouldn’t know what to do with her. The writers of Supernatural Season 14 haven’t really written for Jo in the past. There’s the odd one but the majority have only been around the last two seasons. It could feel like a completely different character or just end up with her back and doing nothing.

However, if the character was written well and was utilized properly, I’d be completely up for seeing her back. As I said, I loved Jo and I adore Alona. There was so much potential for Jo and I hated that she was killed off, especially in the way she did die.

While I do think dead should stay dead, there are certainly ways to bring her back. We have to remember the Heaven storyline. While Ash hadn’t found Ellen and Jo in Season 5, he could have done by now. We could see all three back if Heaven crumbles and the souls make it out of Heaven. Right?

As long as she is written well and used properly, with Heaven’s storyline in mind, Supernatural Season 14 could be the perfect time for her to return.
