A Star is Born is here, and with it, the film’s soundtrack! The soundtrack includes all the songs featured in the movie, along with some that didn’t make the cut.

This past Friday, A Star is Born was released in theaters. The soundtrack for the movie dropped concurrently with the film. It includes 19 songs performed by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.

Not only does the soundtrack have all the songs performed by Ally (Gaga) and Jackson (Cooper) in the film, but it also has a few songs that aren’t featured in the movie. Also, the album comes with full versions of the tunes that were only heard for a few seconds in the film.

The music of the film is not only well-performed, but also emotional. Out of the 19 songs on the album, it was hard to pick the 5 best ones, but we did our best! Here are the 5 best songs from the A Star is Born soundtrack (plus one honorable mention)..

Honorable Mention: “La Vie En Rose”- Lady Gaga

Though it’s not one of the film’s original songs, I had to mention this fantastic cover of the Edith Piaf classic. Gaga’s rendition of “La Vie En Rose” is enchanting. It is even more magical on the big screen. This is a cover that is just as good as the original.

1) “Music To My Eyes”- Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper

“Music To My Eyes” is one of the songs that was only featured shortly in the film. It’s a shame, because it’s a terrific song. “Music To My Eyes” is country-rock song about two people falling in love through music. It’s the perfect song for Ally and Jack’s relationship. Gaga and Cooper’s voices blend together perfectly over a soulful melody.

2) “Shallow”- Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper

“Shallow” is the song that has been most used for the film’s promotional videos and it’s not hard to understand why. It is an incredibly powerful song. As Gaga mentioned on Colbert, the lyrics are very potent in today’s times.

However, what makes the song so great are Gaga’s powerhouse vocals. The wail in the middle of the song is raw and emotional. It is Ally letting go of her insecurities and letting the world know what she has to say. I literally got goosebumps in the theater during that part.

3) “Always Remember Us this Way”- Lady Gaga

This song is one of the many great ballads on the album. It’s another song that proves when you put Gaga in front of a piano magic happens. There is something very intimate about this song. It is almost like Gaga is at a piano in a bar about to close for the night. It’s this intimacy and the emotion of the song that makes it so memorable.

4) “Heal Me” -Lady Gaga

Ally has several songs in the film that are a part of her career as a budding pop star. Many of these songs are purposefully cringe-y. They have childish lyrics and are over-produced. They represent Ally conforming to a “pop” image.

However, one song is a step above the rest. That song is “Heal Me.” It is a solid pop bop. With its soft-pop beats, “Heal Me” is one of the catchiest songs on the album. The lyrics aren’t the strongest of the album, but they aren’t as bad as the lyrics of “Why Did You Do That?” and “Hair Body Face.” The song is also a showcase of Gaga’s impressive vocal range as she hits high notes with ease.

5) “Is That Alright?”- Lady Gaga

There are so many songs about love, it’s hard to find one that truly stands out. However, “Is That Alright?” makes its presence known. The song is about truly loving someone through the good times and the bad. Again, it is another emotionally-driven song. Gaga, as Ally, is letting her emotions be completely bare. The lyrics never come off as too cheesy. This is a love ballad I foresee being played at future weddings.
