Venom director Ruben Fleischer reveals major plot hole in film
By Chanel Malik
Venom was one of the most highly anticipated Marvel movies of the past few years, but fans were somewhat let down due to a major plot hole. One that even director Ruben Fleischer himself has admitted was pretty glaring.
The overlooked detail, he confesses to GameSpot, centers around Riot, a symbiote which is looking to leave Malaysia for San Francisco. The reason for this is that symbiotes must travel from place to place due to not being able to connect with a specific host for too much time.
The glaring error in question is that Riot connects with an old woman in Malaysia, with whom he would be reconnected with after the six-month time jump featured in the film, which as mentioned is not technically possible. When discussing the issue, Fleischer gives the explanation that Riot was supposed to be leaving locations once he was unable to continue using the life form of the given host where he currently resided.
The plot hole became painfully obvious, however, due to directors needing to include said passage of time during filming in order to portray the downfall of Eddie Brock, also known as Venom. Fleischer admits there was not much to be done in terms of covering their tracks regarding this slip-up, and that this sort of thing will be paid closer attention to when it comes to future releases.

Although critics on the whole have not been hesitant when it comes to pointing out the movie’s flaws, there are many viewers who found Venom to be highly entertaining anyway.
Despite multiple slip-ups and misjudgments in production, the film has been praised for the acting abilities of Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams, who play the movie’s top characters.
The film, which has been out in theaters in the United States for a week now, had an original budget of $100 million has since grossed over $80 million over its opening weekend. Currently, it boasts a respectable 7.1 out of 10 rating on IMDB, with a metascore of 35.
