Eric Kripke discusses directing again after Supernatural Season 4
Did you know Eric Kripke has only just returned to directing after Supernatural Season 4? During NYCC, he discussed the return for the season finale of The Boys.
Eric Kripke is well known to the SPN Family. In fact, it’s because of him that there is an SPN Family. While the creator may have gone onto other projects, it’s clear that Supernatural is close to his heart. His upcoming project is Amazon Prime’s The Boys, where he’s a showrunner and has returned to directing.
And yes, I say “returned” to directing. Kripke hasn’t directed since Supernatural Season 4’s finale, “Lucifer Rising.” It’s been 10 years since he’s stepped behind the camera in that way and taken full control of an episode.

Of course, as a showrunner, he is 20% director as his fellow The Boys EP Evan Goldberg explained at NYCC 2018. Eric Kripke certainly knows what it’s like to make sure an episode looks just right for TV. So, it wouldn’t have been too daunting to return to directing an episode.
Filming of The Boys has just wrapped in Toronto. There was a break during filming to get everyone at NYCC to promote the show that will drop on Amazon Prime next year. It was during NYCC that Kripke discussed the return to filming (yes, during that roundtable interview it was me who brought up Supernatural).

Kripke and Goldberg also share more about The Boys and what to expect from the series. Why is this superhero show so important right now? If you’ve read the comics, you’ll know that it isn’t your typical superhero show and it’s also going to have the Kripke touch.
