Is he trying to create more angels? Trying to give his victims extra powers? Whatever it is, it doesn’t work and the victim is smited. “Who’s next?” he asks his other victims tied up.
Meanwhile, Sam and the others are looking into Duluth, which is where Sister Jo told them Michael would be. Sam has found a news report about dead bodies that have been found in Duluth and he’s sure it’s linked to Michael.
Sam, Bobby, and Mary head off. Castiel knows he can’t go. Not only is he needed to look after Jack and Nick, but he also knows Michael will sense him and it will give everything away. However, he’s not confident about looking after Nick.
Bless, Sam in this moment, as he reminds Castiel that Lucifer was the one in control and not Nick. Honestly, Castiel should know what it’s like to come back after a possession–how people can question who you are. Castiel and Sam were both possessed by Lucifer at one point.
Nick remembers his family
While Sam, Mary, and Bobby are on their case, Castiel has some heart-to-hearts with both Nick and Jack. The first is with Nick to figure out how much Nick remembers. What Nick doesn’t understand is why he would say yes to Lucifer.
Nick has forgotten everything, including the deaths of his wife and child. It’s heartbreaking to see Mark Pellegrino’s Nick remember everything.
After that, a pep talk with Jack is necessary. Jack is looking for all sorts of information about regenerating grace. It can take one month to one century. Castiel shares that he does know how Jack feels and that it took Sam and Dean but also himself to get through the difficult time. It’s a super sweet pep talk.
After that, Nick decides he’s heading out to look for the person who killed his wife and child. That case hasn’t been solved and he’s angry that he gave into Lucifer. There’s a flash where he looks just like Lucifer. Castiel shares that while Lucifer is definitely gone, he’s done far more damage to Nick’s psyche than any of them considered.
Nick learns more about Jimmy Novak and Castiel, likening him to Lucifer for stealing bodies. After that, Nick heads off in search for the neighbor who originally said he’d seen the killer and then changed his story. He wants the truth and will threaten to get it.
Jack visits family
With the knowledge that Jack may not get his grace back any time soon, he heads off to look for some sort of familial connection. That takes him to his grandparents, but, of course, he can’t tell his grandparents about who he is.
It’s almost like the grandparents know who he really is. They even see the similar looks between Jack and a young Kelly Kline. However, Jack doesn’t tell them, knowing how crazy it sounds. He also doesn’t tell them that Kelly is dead.
When Jack gets back, Castiel is angry that Jack would take that sort of risk. There was the possibility of being captured. Jack isn’t sorry, though, because he needed to meet the “only real family” he has left.
Jack then learns that Sam isn’t going to kill Michael because of Dean and is angry that they won’t put the safety of the world before Dean. He has a point about the danger Michael imposes considering the Apocalypse World. Jack makes it clear that if they can’t stop Michael then he has to die and that means Dean will die too.
The hunters walk into a trap
Sam, Mary, and Bobby check out the bodies and then head off looking for the person who had come to look through the bodies. Looking through the security footage, the hunters find out who the girl is and track her. She’s a vampire who has run away from Michael and who just wants to be free and save her family.
Meanwhile, Michael is setting up a deal with werewolves. He and the werewolf pack leader create a plan to destroy the humans, saving only enough for slaves and a food source.
It then turns out that Michael knew that the vampire girl, Lydia, had ran away. He let her escape to create a trap for the hunters. And with just a flash of his eyes, Lydia is smited.
Sure enough, Sam, Mary, and Bobby head into the trap and are ambushed by werewolves. All the usual tricks to stop them aren’t working except decapitation. After a battle, Michael!Dean makes himself known. That is, Dean makes himself known by saying “Sammy.”

Michael has left the building…sorry, vessel, and Dean doesn’t understand why. The look in his eyes suggests that this is definitely Dean.
At the very end, we catch up with Nick, who is covered in blood with a bloody hammer in his hand. He’s killed the neighbor. Could it be that he was the one who killed his wife and child? That was the way they died, after all!
