It’s time for tricks and treats on Bob’s Burgers when the Belchers and Teddy celebrate Halloween with candy, clever costumes, and a few tricks.

Once again, Halloween comes early on Bob’s Burgers. Similar to previous years, their Halloween episode is airing a little bit early. Sadly, there won’t be a new Bob’s Burgers next week but the show will return on November 4. It’s never too early to get in the Halloween spirit, though, so let’s hope “Nightmare on Ocean Avenue Street” does the trick…or treat.

If you haven’t watched “Nightmare on Ocean Avenue Street,” there will be spoilers from this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers.

“Nightmare on Ocean Avenue Street” starts with the street celebrating their 1st annual Candy Festival while the family hangs out in the restaurant. Bob goes through the mail and sees a flyer of Dr. Yap’s about buying the kids Halloween candy for $1 dollar a pound. Later that evening, the kids come in their costumes with Gene as Andre 3000 the Giant, Louise as the dragon with a girl tattoo and Tina as nun of your business.

The kids start trick or treating on the street, getting tons of candy until they run into the Pesto twins, Regular Sized Rudy and Darryl. They all explain their candy has been stolen and Louise accuses Jimmy Jr and Zeke until Gene gets his candy stolen right in front of them.

Louise tries to outsmart the thief by staying inside instead of on the street. In one of the stores, Tina gets her bag stolen. To try to protect Louise’s candy, everyone crowds around her until a person dressed up as a gorilla comes up and steals it out of her hands. They all get on the bus to chase after the gorilla until the bus driver kicks them off.

Everyone besides Tina and Gene follows him into the mutilation mansion, a haunted house on the wharf. They lose him until Tina and Gene come behind, tackling the gorilla. They unmask it and find out it’s Dr. Yap. He explains he did it to help them and reveals where their candy is. The kids get their candy back and the episode ends with them returning their candy back to their rightful owners.

Meanwhile, Teddy gets into an argument with the handyman and tells him that he’s decorating Bob’s Burgers. The two start decorating during the day, arguing back and forth. Every time Teddy tries to do something, Glen does something better until Teddy gives up.

Bob steps in and explains they have a grand finale. Bob and Teddy continue to decorate to show up Glen. They attach chainsaws to Teddy’s spider and accidentally destroy Glen’s decorations. In the end, we find out Glen only did it to try to impress Teddy.

The two plotlines in “Nightmare on Ocean Avenue Street” couldn’t have worked any better together. Not only were they both related to Halloween but they were both given equal amounts of attention. It was clear the storyline with the kids was the main plotline but Teddy’s storyline didn’t take away from it. It was a careful and smart balance.

Between the two, I found the plotline with the kids pretty predictable. As soon as Yap was mentioned, it was obvious he was involved. It didn’t take much away from the episode, though. As for Teddy’s plotline, it was sweet and a great bonding moment for Teddy and Bob.

The highlight of the episode was the kids and their costumes. As per usual, the crew didn’t disappoint. Each of their costumes fit perfectly with their personalities and truly made the episode. Halloween on Bob’s Burgers is a grand affair and this year’s episode kept the tradition alive.

Personally, I didn’t enjoy this episode as much. Maybe, it was the predictable plot, but something didn’t click for me. I did appreciate the kid’s costumes and everything with Teddy. Overall, it wasn’t a bad episode but I didn’t love it as much as the previous ones.

I give “Nightmare on Ocean Avenue Street” a C.

Bob’s Burgers airs Sundays on Fox at 8:30/7:30c.
