Fans of the hit Netflix crime drama Narcos are ecstatic after not only finding out the release date of season 4, but also with the release of a tantalizing new trailer in which the plot thickens even further.

This new twist centers around a highly significant time jump, in which the show’s kingpins go back to the past in order to engage in a drug war totally separate from that featured so far in the series. The decade is the 1980s, and Mexico’s Guadalajara cartel is the focus.

The setting change is not the only new piece of storyline being thrown at Narcos fans as of late; back in September, directors revealed that two new actors would be joining the program. Diego Luna and Michael Pena’s casting was met with mixed reviews; although some viewers were ecstatic due to them liking the actors’ roles in other films and series, others felt that their abilities simply did not fit with the direction of the show and that ratings would most certainly suffer as a result.

Luna plays Miguel Felix Gallardo, a cartel ruler who ran the Mexico-U.S. border and who ultimately began the former country’s drug war. Pena is an undercover agent by the name of Kiki Camarena, who arrives on scene to deal with the trouble at hand but is clearly out of his depth.

While most Narcos fans are overjoyed at the series being renewed for a fourth season, many viewers believed that it was doubtful the show would come back for quite some time, if even at all. This is due to the less-than-stellar reviews that the third season received, which led to fans believing that the highly-coveted program would be canceled for good.

The new season will premiere on November 16. Netflix honchos have been quite secretive over the years as to exactly how the series is doing in terms of ratings, but it is believed that viewer turnout is still significant enough to warrant the continuation of the program.
