Netflix’s Guillermo del Toro project confirmed as Pinocchio remake

Last October, critically acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro announced that he was involved in a highly anticipated upcoming Netflix project, the subject of which has recently been released as Pinocchio.

Disney’s iconic film Pinocchio will be released as a stop-motion musical, according to Variety. It will feature the puppet who desires more than anything to be a real boy but struggles against his inability to tell the truth. Del Toro, along with directing the new project, will also boast writing and producing credits.

The news of the upcoming project first came about without many details regarding exactly what the director’s new claim to fame was all about. All that fans were able to discuss was the former glory of his prior films, including Pan’s Labyrinth and The Devil’s Backbone.

As for his new Netflix installment, there has been some information provided surrounding how exactly the plotline goes. This new Pinocchio will be set in the era of the 1930s in Italy, focusing especially around how Benito Mussolini had total control over the nation due to how politically distraught the nation was at that time.

Guillermo del Toro himself has released quite the emotional statement regarding his feelings towards directing this new Pinocchio installment. In his own words, the 54-year-old expressed that he had never experienced such an emotional nor career-influencing connection than that of the character he worked so hard to create in a new light, Pinocchio.

Del Toro has spent the last few decades, he confesses, desiring to create this new production. He wanted to prove to all critics that he does, in fact, know what he is doing and how to bring forth something as incredible as was expected after all this time.
