Legacies has arrived! The series premiere delivered romance, drama, and magic.

After months of waiting to see The Vampire Diaries and The Originals spin-off, Legacies, it has finally arrived, and boy did it deliver. I’m beyond thrilled that creator Julie Plec is behind all three shows. Otherwise, I’m sure the show would have tanked. Actually, it would have never been greenlit as I’m sure CW only trusts Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson to handle these types of shows.

I’m so glad we get to see The Vampire Diaries continue in a way. I say that because we get to see our beloved characters returning. It was also great seeing Mystic Falls, VA on my TV screen again.

Legacies starts off with Rafael (Peyton ‘Alex’ Smith) being in an attempted exorcism and his foster-brother Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) being there with him. Alaric (Matthew Davis) and Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) open the church doors and go inside to save Rafael. We then see Rafael turn into a werewolf. Afterward, we then see Hope walk into Landon, who had a crush on him before he left Mystic Falls.

Alaric, Hope, Rafael, and Landon are going to The Salvatore Boarding School. Once there, Hope and Alaric give information to Landon about his foster-brother, Rafael, after what Landon witnessed.

Afterward, they tried to compel Landon, but that didn’t work so Alaric put Landon in a cell until the vervain left his body.

We then find out Rafael takes Landon out of the cell and reunites with Hope. They both have quite a history, along with a flashback scene of a dance. They both kiss and, don’t mind me, I’m now a Hope and Landon shipper. They’re just so adorable.

We see an angry Lizzie destroying the school’s kitchen with her witch spells, and the reason for that is that Rafael doesn’t want to date her. Once Alaric shows up in the kitchen, a knife almost hits him in the forehead. Lizzie is also upset since her father Alaric and Hope spend so much time together with training and him being a mentor for her.

In the next scene, Landon asks the headmaster, Alaric, if he can stay there, but Alaric tells him The Salvatore School is for kids with supernatural gifts. Alaric compels Landon so he would forget all about this, but it turns out, he isn’t able to be compelled, because he’s a supernatural himself.

Afterward, Landon ends up stealing a knife and takes a bus. Alaric approaches Hope about this and fears everyone will find out about the school since Landon may go telling everyone about this. She refuses to believe it because every time she gets close to someone, she loses them. She then decides to track down Landon using dark magic, she sees him as she is performing the magic and his knife glows in the bus.

Alaric and Hope go find the bus, along with The Vampire Diaries fans seeing sheriff Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig) make his appearance, even though it was a very short cameo. I was happy to see him back! Hope goes into the bus, we see no one alive and Landon was nowhere to be found. That was some twist at the end there, and Hope said Landon will be her biggest villain.

We also meet Caroline and Alaric’s daughters, Josie (Kaylee Bryant) and Lizzie (Jenny Boyd). Josie is heartbroken since Penelope (Lulu Antariksa) and she broke up. Josie sees Penelope kissing her friend MG (Quincy Fouse) and uses her magic to cast a fire spell on MG to stop both MG and Penelope from kissing more, as it’s clearly hurting Josie. We learn Josie is bisexual as she ends up going into a relationship with Rafael afterward.

We haven’t seen Caroline (Candice King) in the pilot, but for now, the girls are learning to deal with their mother being absent. They have their father there for them, which is great, and Julie Plec gave all The Vampire Diaries fans hope. Creator, Julie Plec, teased to Entertainment Weekly:

"“Alaric knows she’s actually off doing other things that have to do with the long-term survival of their daughters. So the mystery of, where is Caroline, why isn’t she coming home for their birthday, that kind of thing is gonna be part of our story in the hopes that one day we’ll be able to walk to have her walk through the doors as well.”"

That would undoubtedly make for an emotional storyline and the fans would go crazy over this.
