The Simpsons producers have announced that they are cutting a beloved character from the series, following almost a year of controversy regarding racial stereotypes.

UPROXX has revealed that Adi Shankar spoke out to finally put an end to the on-going debate regarding what exactly would be done surrounding the backlash which unleashed after the documentary The Problem With Apu was released back in 2017. The man behind the show, Hari Kondabolu, caused quite a storm when he accused The Simpsons producers of portraying east Indian people “unrealistically” in terms of how they speak and their employment, etc.

Comedy Central show South Park has also recently taken up offense to the character of Apu, and many FOX viewers believe this had a handle in producers making the decision to cut him out of the series altogether. As for how exactly he will disappear, the plan has been set but fans are none too happy regarding the decision.

Instead of making a whole to-do surrounding Apu leaving, as in whether he would quit the Kiwk-E-Mart, decide to move or the like, producers have chosen to simply make the character drop out of the show quietly without drawing too much attention. Those who have been around since the show aired back in 1989 are not too impressed, as they feel that he should have a far more impressive sendoff given that he has been in the series since Episode 1.
