Roswell, New Mexico interview: Showrunner Carina Adly MacKenzie talks a Tess mention
Disappointed to learn that the Roswell reboot won’t have all the characters from the original series? That doesn’t mean there won’t be a mention or two in Roswell, New Mexico, according to showrunner Carina Adly MacKenzie.
Who’s looking forward to Roswell, New Mexico? This is the second of two 90s reboots The CW is bringing to its screens in the 2018-2019 season and the one that has the least backlash. However, there are some fans of the 90s series disappointed since some of the characters won’t be included. Carina Adly MacKenzie says there will still be mentions.
There’s one Easter egg in the Roswell reboot’s sixth episode. Tess will be mentioned. It’s a name drop from what Carina said during the NYCC roundtable interview, but it’s better than nothing right?

This is the only Easter egg. Carina admits that while she watched the original series and read the first book (which the original series was loosely based on), she doesn’t have a great memory for Easter eggs. This is what a good team is for, though, right?
One of the most important elements that came out of this interview was the reason for the characters being older than in the original series and the books. This isn’t just another high school drama (and I’ll be honest that I’m relieved). The main characters are 10 years older because Carina believes that being on the “cusp of adulthood” is more suited for 28-year-olds than 18-year-olds.
Plus, it’s worth remembering that Carina was heavily involved in The Originals, the spin-off of The Vampire Diaries that focused on the 1000-year-old vampires and hybrids. It was only in the final season that the teen drama element was added back in. And she’s definitely not involved in Legacies.
She wants to write and create more adult drama and tell deeper storylines. This is her chance to do that.
