Supernatural Season 4, Episode 14 introduced the siren and put the Winchesters against each other one more time. With a twist on the original siren lore, the show made a point that the Winchesters’ relationship will always win out, but how did it happen?

Here’s a look at the events from the episode to help you get through a week of no new episode. It’s time for the “Sex and Violence” recap.

A husband kills his wife

More from Supernatural

It all starts with the cold open. Adam Benson returns home to his wife making dinner while teasing him for being late. It irritates Adam, who is even angrier when she says she accepted a birthday invitation for the weekend. It all builds up to Adam picking up the meat tenderizer and killing his wife.

Elsewhere, Dean hears Sam talking to someone in the bathroom about demonic signs and pretends to be asleep when Sam walks out. When Dean “wakes,” Sam shares that Bobby has a case. Adam wasn’t the first to kill his wife. There have been two others.

When they visit Adam, he admits that he was in love with a stripper called Jasmine but only knows she works at the Honey Wagon. It’s not much to go on, so the Winchesters head to see the medical examiner, who says that the blood samples from the accused show high levels of oxytocin, the chemical of love.

The Winchesters then realize that the men fell for a different stripper at the same club. Bobby suggests they may be dealing with a stripper. This is where we end up following Lenny Bristol, who is falling for Belle. When Lenny returns home with Belle, where he cares for his invalid mother, he ends up killing his mother on the promise that he can be with Belle forever.

Dean finds out the truth

Meanwhile, Dean decides to figure out who Sam has really been speaking to. It’s Ruby, suggesting that Sam is up to something. The truth has to wait, though, as Sam has information about Lenny and Bobby figures out that the siren uses a venom to “enspell” its victims.

Killing the siren is going to be difficult. It takes a bronze dagger dipped in the blood of a current victim. Who could be under the spell right now?

When the Winchesters head back to get a blood sample from one of the accused, real FBI agent Nick Munroe is there. This is where we learn that Bobby has specially-labeled phones to pretend to be different “supervisors.” In this case, it’s their supervisor Mike Kaiser.

As Sam goes off to get the blood sample, Nick and Dean bond over the Impala, drinks, and classic rock. Nick also points out that a hyacinth was found at every crime scene, leading to Dean thinking of the flowers at the medical examiner’s office.

Our suspicions of the woman continue, as she lures Sam into her office and they have sex. Dean also points out that her ex-husband died of a heart attack. Sam refuses to believe that she’s the siren. Dean decides to handle the case alone, leaving a message for Bobby and finding Nick to help.

The real siren is revealed

While meeting Nick for a drink, Dean shares another theory: that the poisoning is done through physical contact. This is where Nick reveals himself as the siren. Dean has been poisoned through sharing a drink with him and Dean is now under his spell. If Dean wants the “perfect brother,” he needs to kill Sam so Dean and Nick can hunt together.

Dean heads back to the motel room. When Sam walks in, Dean grabs him and holds a knife to his throat. Nick then infects Sam, pitting the Winchester brothers against each other. They’re to fight it out and the winner gets to be with Nick forever.

Truths between each other are revealed. Sam makes it clear that he wants to hunt Lilith but feels Dean isn’t strong enough, taunting him about his anguish about Hell. Dean, meanwhile, thinks Sam had changed.

As the brothers fight, it looks like Dean is going to get the upper hand. Bobby walks in just in time, stabbing Dean with a dagger and then using that same dagger to stab Nick. The bronze dagger is covered in Dean’s infected blood, killing the siren and breaking the spell.

In the end, both brothers awkwardly apologize to each other. With the truth out, can they go back to working together, though?
