The episode starts with a quick catch up of everything that happened near Kattegat at the end of Vikings Season 5A. With Rollo in Kattegat, it’s an easy catchup. Ivar and Harald run through killing brothers, gaining land, and the need to find Lagatha.
Of course, Rollo knows where Lagatha has gone. That night, he takes one of his men and heads to the barn that Lagatha and her army are staying in. It’s the same place he fled with Lagatha and Ragnar was Jarl Borg had attacked.
Rollo has an offer to keep Lagatha safe. More importantly, he wants to keep Bjorn safe, believing that Bjorn is his son. It’s not a major secret, either. Bjorn knows that his mother was sleeping with both Rollo and Ragnar at the same time, but Bjorn believes Ragnar is his dad. That’s all that matters to him.
Bjorn isn’t too happy that Rollo is around, though. He views Rollo as a traitor and the man who almost got his mother killed once upon a time. Have threatening to kill Rollo, he decides that his uncle isn’t worth it. This is just after Rollo turns to Heahmund for Christian forgiveness, who gives that gladly.
When Lagatha and her people turn down Rollo’s offer, Rollo heads back to Kattegat. In order to join Ivar’s fight, Rollo wants a crazy trade deal that only benefits him. Think silver, gold, food, and men that Ivar couldn’t possibly give up.
Of course, Ivar says no but he does learn where Lagatha is hiding out. Well, where they were hiding out. By the time Ivar gets there, Lagatha and her army have moved on, leaving only Margrethe behind.
Back at Kattegat, Ivar runs into Freydis again. She was a young slave he freed a long time ago and now she’s back to boost his ego again.
Lagatha heads to England
Heahmund makes the suggestion that they go to England. He could be the bridge between two nations, believing King Aethelwulf is still alive and on the throne.
There’s one downside to heading there. If Heahmund becomes bishop of his parish again, he won’t be allowed to have Lagatha in his life. The love he bears for her is too much though, and he’s not happy about that idea. And that love should be what keeps Heahmund on Lagatha’s side over there.
When they get to England, they’re met with Aethelred’s army, which has just taken down some Vikings. With Heahmund at the front of the boat, he’s able to prevent Aethelred’s army from attacking, which is when he also learns that Aethelwulf is dead and Alfred is now king.
The only way Lagatha and her now tiny army (pretty much just her family) will be allowed into the country is as prisoners. Alfred will likely have need for them, though, as throughout the episode he laments that the people (and the church since he wants services to be in English) are against him.

Floki offers himself as a sacrifice
Back in Iceland, tensions are rising. At the end of the Vikings Season 5A finale, Floki had offered himself as a sacrifice to appease the Gods. That offer still stands in this premiere.
Not everyone wants Floki to be a sacrifice. He’s too important. Of course, some view him as just a man who has led them to a desolate land. The island people are soon split 50/50 on whether Floki should be a sacrifice.
As Flatnose remains loyal to Floki, Eyvid leads the charge against. It’s Eyvid’s son who is still to vote, although he doesn’t want to. Flatnose makes it clear that it’s the law that he must vote and Eyvid states he must vote with his family. It looks like Floki will be used as a sacrifice, but Eyvid’s son refuses to let it happen.
It looks like one family is going to be split.
