Where to watch Friends if the series leaves Netflix
By Sefket Nouri
Whether Netflix kicks out Friends or not, be prepared! Here are other ways to watch the series.
Will Friends be there for you? You bet! It may not be via Netflix, though. Today, we’ve had mixed emotions! First, it was announced the beloved series would be leaving Netflix on January 2019. Fans took to Twitter to express their outrage, and now it appears the streaming giant has taken it back.
If you go on Netflix and click Friends, you’ll see it has a notice there that says “Available Until 01/01/2019”. It appears that it was a four-year contract. For all I know, it may be going on Hulu instead, which is still great news.
Hulu has seasons one and eight on its streaming service, so perhaps Hulu is acquiring the rest of the seasons to add to its library? That would make the most sense to me, and I’m sure it would put many fans at ease. Otherwise, you can’t just do us dirty like that and remove Friends from our lives.
More from Netflix
- Bridgerton season 3: All the details to know about Penelope and Colin’s love story
- It’s a slow week on Netflix with only three new releases (Nov. 20)
- Exploding Kittens: From card game to Netflix animated series starring Tom Ellis
- The Crown and more Netflix shows and movies to stream this week (November 13)
- Escaping Twin Flames and more harrowing love-centered documentaries to watch on Netflix
However, the only issue with Hulu is, it’s only for the US, while Netflix is global. We can’t complain though if Hulu does acquire the rest of the seasons. We need our crazy Joey Tribbiani and Phoebe Buffay, along with Rachel and Ross with “We were on a Break!”
You can check your TV Listings to see if any of your channels have the show on there. Otherwise, there are many other services where you can watch Friends! We highlight them, below:
Please note: You need to pay for many of these services. While it’s not ideal, as you have to pay for each episode at $1.99 and each season for $20, at least we have options.
- Hulu – Only seasons one and eight are available.
No Commerical plan – First month free, then $12 / month.
Limited Commerical plan – First month free, then $5.99/month for 12 months*, then afterward, *then $7.99/month.
- Amazon Prime
- YouTube
- Google Play
- iTunes – $2.99 per episode
- Vudu
Update: Netflix has now announced that Friends won’t leave the service in 2019. However, it may leave in 2020.
That’s the best thing that you can do for now. Of course, you could also buy the complete series on Blu-ray or DVD.
Just in case anything changes, make sure you binge-watch as many Friends episodes as you can before the new year!
P.S. I’m still hoping for a Friends reunion. Maybe someday it will be made, especially after Jennifer Aniston said in August of this year that she fantasizes about a Friends reunion.
