We’re counting down to Christmas while featuring Sam Winchester. For the 17th day, let’s look at some reasons why we love him so much.

Happy Sam-mas, SPN Family. We’re counting down to Christmas honoring the younger Winchester brother. It’s been a fun ride thus far, and we’ve been looking at Sam in a lot of different ways. But today, for a #ManCrushMonday, let’s look at four reasons we love Sam Winchester so much.

He’s a leader

More from Supernatural

In Supernatural’s 14th season, we have watched Sam grow into a leadership position we always knew would fit him. Since Dean was being possessed by Michael, Sam was forced into taking control of the hunters who came over from the Apocalypse World. And he seemed to do it seamlessly.

He’s already known for being organized and “bookish,” so seeing the systems he’d set up to train and keep track of hunters was not surprising. He makes a great leader, and it took Dean stepping out of the picture in order to showcase it.

He loves his brother

The relationship between Dean and Sam Winchester is what makes the show. And we see over and over again how much each brother cares for the other. And sometimes, it’s in the form of one sacrificing their life for the other.

In Season 3, we are forced to watch Sam lose Dean over and over again as some trick by Gabriel. And then watch him lose him for real to hellhounds in the season finale. You could see the pain in Sam’s loss all over his face. And he spends the entirety of Season 3 trying to find a way to save Dean from his deal.

In Season 5, we watch Sam sacrifice himself in order for Dean to have a world to live in. We watch Sam try everything in his power to get Dean back after Michael takes him over. Time and time again, the relationship between Sam and his older brother is on display, and that is what makes the show amazing.

He’s smart

It’s become a running joke on the show: Sam is the bookish one, Dean is the one that always eats and shirks researching responsibilities. But that is one of Sam’s defining characteristics. He’s always up for researching lore and for looking through the Men of Letters archives.

When we meet Sam in the first season, he’s attending Stanford, and you don’t just attend Stanford unless you’ve got the brains to go with it. And Sam definitely earned that spot.

He’s loyal

Sam is very loyal to his friends and family, and that probably comes from his Winchester blood. From what we learned throughout the series, John Winchester was very loyal to his fellow hunters. And Sam has turned out to be the same.

Once you prove yourself, you’re family, and Sam will do anything to make sure that you’re taken care of. Just look at some past people. Kevin? Sam eventually treated him like a brother and would do anything to protect him. Charlie? Little sister he never had. Jack? His kid.

If you were in the Supernatural universe, then you would want Sam Winchester to be on your side, having your back. Because he totally would.
