The Supernatural Season 14 fall finale delivered an emotional and shocking episode. Before we start looking at things to do to keep us entertained during the winter Hellatus, here are the five best lines from The Spear.

Supernatural Season 14, Episode 9 was always going to be intense and exciting. It was the fall finale and that meant stakes were high and cliffhangers were necessary. And that’s exactly what we got.

Now we know we have a few weeks of no new episodes so many of us are looking for a way to spend the winter Hellatus. Before doing that, it’s time for a quick look back at the episode. Here are my five favorite lines from “The Spear.”

Yeah, we’ve all been through it. It’s something of a rite of passage around here.

Castiel has some excellent lines throughout the episode and the first two best ones are all his. This one comes up first, as he and Jack talk about dying. It’s a standard joke that Winchesters can die and come back to life. The majority of them have, including Castiel who many fans view as a Winchester.

Now Jack has become a Winchester after going through the rite of passage. It’s good to know that the show continues its nod to fans.

This life may be a lot of things, but it’s rarely happy.

As Castiel talks about why the Empty won’t come after him, there’s this line at the end. However, it’s an important one, as it shows that Castiel has started to view the world as the Winchesters. They can’t find happiness in it.

You really want to give Cass a big cuddle. At first, he’s just talking about Michael still being in the world, but deep down there’s something more to it. What’s going to be interesting is what will make him truly happy because we know it’s going to happen. Will it be at the very end when Michael is finally gone?

Kept me trapped and drowning inside my own body. Now, when you and Sam were possessed by Lucifer, I — I thought I understood, but I didn’t, not really.

Dean is up next. He’s happy and he’s not ashamed to admit it. What’s an excellent development of character, though, is this line. He admits his faults in never truly understanding what it was like to be possessed by Lucifer.

This sort of makes up for Dean’s actions in the last season. He spent a lot of time pushing Sam to just face Lucifer because he didn’t really know what it was like to be possessed. Maybe now he’ll be much more understanding!

I came here to escape a life of running from monsters. But here, it’s no different, not for me. Michael’s monsters haven’t stopped hunting me. At least over there, I understood things — the world, my place in it.

Dark!Kaia helped Dean and Castiel in the end. She chose to give up her spear temporarily, but I found this line extremely interesting. She just wants to go home.

More importantly, there’s magic in her world that doesn’t exist in this one. What happened in that parallel world to bring her type of magic and how does it connect to the taking down of an archangel?

Impossible odds. Feels like home. Let’s do it.

To be honest, this line is best when it’s done in the scene. As “Ode to Joy” plays, another connection to Die Hard, the three men discuss their plan. They know that they’re up against the impossible but they are going to take on Michael anyway.

Dean’s line stands out the most for me. There’s no question in whether they should go off. He knows that everyone else is thinking the same as him: it’s now or never.
