The first standalone Black Mirror movie, Bandersnatch, is now streaming on Netflix!

Consider your Friday night plans made! Netflix has released Black Mirror: Bandersnatch just a day after premiering the trailer. Will you be watching the movie this weekend? Gotta love Netflix! They like to keep subscribers on their toes by throwing surprises our way rather unexpectedly.

After months on not hearing anything about Black Mirror, the show’s official Twitter account shoots out a tweet with a single word: “Relax.” Fans immediately leaped out of their seats, knowing something huge was coming. Sure enough, the trailer for Black Mirror: Bandersnatch was released and now, the movie is streaming.

Missed the trailer? We don’t blame you. Everything happened so fast and we’re in that odd time between Christmas and New Year’s. Check it out, below:

The movie takes place in 1984 and follows Stefan Butler (portrayed by Fionn Whitehead), a young programmer who begins working on adapting a fantasy novel into a video game.

"From Netflix, here’s the synopsis: “In 1984, a young programmer begins to question reality as he adapts a sprawling fantasy novel into a video game and soon faces a mind-mangling challenge."

The idea to create an interactive movie was first presented in 2017. The stories featured in Black Mirror have always introduced new ideas and advanced technology, so it makes sense that they attempt an interactive and engaging experience with their audience.

Did it work? Fans and critics have been giving the movie mixed reviews, but most are in favor. You’ll have to watch it for yourself! Once you do, be sure to share your thoughts on it with us in the comments!

Since the story depends on choice YOU make, this won’t be like any other watch on Netflix. Your hands need to be ready (so no greasy or cheesy snacks) and definitely no multi-tasking. Please note, it available to play on some devices.

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch is now streaming on Netflix. Don’t expect this movie to pop up along with the listed Black Mirror episodes. It’s a standalone film, so search for it if you don’t see it appear on the home screen.
