This week on The Big Bang Theory, the gang takes their emotions out on each other with paintball. Here are the five best moments from the winter premiere!

Before the show went on break, the last episode of The Big Bang Theory gave Sheldon a breakthrough with his asymmetry study and about his family. As stated previously, it seemed like a solid starting point for where the show his heading for a series conclusion.

This week, the show returns with a mostly fun episode with everyone working out their differences in paintball. We also see Sheldon is becoming a superstar among his colleagues after his major research breakthrough. With t+hat said, let’s get into it. Here are the five best moments from last night’s episode!

#1. Sheldon is a people person

The start of the episode saw Sheldon reaping the benefits of his success when a colleague invites him to dine with the big boys. During the sequence, he and Amy are told that they will have to do press for the research. Only thing is, the administration would rather have Amy handle press because Sheldon lacks a personable characteristic.

The funny part, Sheldon attempts arguing that he can behave himself. But when challenged with a certain question that could test his ego, Sheldon’s face hilariously holds back so much aggression that he caves. So, Amy becomes the spokesperson for the project.

#2. Stuart gets too much of a good thing

One of the sweeter elements of this week’s episode is the continued growth of Stuart and Denise’s relationship. Denise decided to drop a major bombshell on the poor guy this time by asking if he wanted to move in with her. The magnitude of the decision was so overwhelming to him that instead of accepting, his social anxiety makes him panic and run away.

This later gets handled in the paintball fight when Denise takes the rejection out on him by shooting him–everywhere. All that said, Stuart, explains to her that it’s not because he does not want to move in with her, it’s because the decision is so huge he is scared he will mess things up. Anyone with diagnosed anxiety will find this extremely relatable. In the end, he gives her a key to his place but begs her to never use it because it’s actually Howard and Bernadette’s place.

#3. Raj and Anu’s relationship is tested

This plotline continues to frustrate me but I think it might hopefully be leading somewhere. Raj and Anu both have an app that notifies the user when someone is at the front door–and has a camera to show who it is on your phone. When fixing the technology for her, Raj somehow gets the notification that someone is at Anu’s place, and he sees her hugging a man and inviting him inside.

This later comes out on the paintball field when Raj reveals what he saw to Anu. She explains that it was her ex coming to get his things, specifically his Waterpik. She then demands why he doesn’t/can’t trust her, he ends up responding with because he doesn’t know her well enough. As she walks away, she says, “then why are we getting married?”

Again, it’s unclear where the show writers are trying to take this storyline but let’s hope it’s more satisfying than what we have seen so far. Raj deserves a satisfying conclusion just like the rest of his awkward fellowship.

#4. Howard and Bernadette get paintball freaky

During the paintball fight, Howard ends up shooting Bernadette in the chest. The moment at first seems like Bernadette is about to kill Howard but quickly abrupts into her taking Howard to a private area for “private time.”

Soon after, Denise runs into the same area and screams when she realizes what she has seen. That said, Howard and Bernadette give her the flag–to win the capture the flag paintball game.  It’s hilarious how disgustingly loving their relationship is, even in the most random of public places.

#5. Sheldon attempts and fails once again at being a people person

After Sheldon and Amy work through their differences about her being the face of the project, Amy then concedes at the end of the episode to let Sheldon attempt to speak to the press. Once they sit down, Sheldon has his game face on and seems ready for any ambush question that comes his way–but he’s not ready at all.

The first question the press lady asks is whether he believes his project is derivative of someone else’s research. Again, he is silent and his face is flinching and squirming from all the snarky rude comments he is holding back… and before he can say anything the episode ends.

Final Thoughts

Overall, this was a decent winter return for The Big Bang Theory.  Not much was pushed forward in the way of Sheldon’s story but the supporting cast had some sweet moments, especially Stuart and Denise. Let’s hope the writers don’t drop the ball on Raj’s romantic subplot though because his character cannot seem to catch a break.
