Good Trouble: We’ll be meeting Gael’s transgender sister, Jazmin
By Sefket Nouri
The creators of The Fosters are continuing what they do best, writing reality. We’ll now be meeting Gael’s transgender sister, Jazmin in Good Trouble.
One of the many reasons why The Fosters has grown such a tremendous and passionate fanbase is because the writers were not scared to tackle any kind of topics. They have covered abortion, pregnancy, LGBT, Stef thinking Nick brought a gun to school (which didn’t happen, phew! That episode scared the crap out of me), and much more. Good Trouble is continuing that.
A great decision the production crew did on The Fosters was the producers cast Elliot Fletcher to play as Aaron, a transgender male who was in a relationship with Callie. They broke ground when Aaron and Callie had sex. I applaud Freeform and the writers for writing these kinds of storylines. What is awesome is that Elliot himself is a transgender, so it’s an authentic storyline.

Now we’ll be meeting Gael’s transgender sister, Jazmin, on Good Trouble. She will be played by Hailie Sahar and she has a recurring role on the spin-off. Some of you who watched the third season of Transparent and have watched Mr. Robot will be familiar with Hailie. She also stars in Ryan Murphy’s new FX show, Pose.
Here is a character description of Jazmin, provided by Deadline:
"Sahar will play will Jazmin, Gael’s (Tommy Martinez) transgender sister, who comes from a traditional family. After losing her job, Jazmin goes to her beloved brother for help. She previously co-starred on the third season of Transparent and appeared on Mr. Robot."
Hailie, who was one of the 2018 TODAY Style Heroes, wrote how she is helping all transgender actresses in the entertainment industry, as she is one herself. It’s great to see producers cast actors and actresses who are authentic in the role that the producers are looking for.
My guess is Jazmin has been fired after her boss found out about her being transgender. It’s a disgrace for that to happen, but will certainly bring in some sadly realistic storylines. She could also be harassed by men and she’s going to her brother for help. If this was happening, you wouldn’t want Gael involved, that’s for sure.
We all know how Callie and Mariana would be in this situation if they meet her. No matter the situation, we all know Callie and Mariana would have Jazmin’s back. They would no doubt help Jazmin with whatever she needs and would support her.
It’s going to be interesting to see what happens. I am thrilled that the creators don’t back away from these kinds of stories, and I know the fans feel the same way. When will she appear in the show? We’re not sure, but you know once we find out, we will let you know.
