Space Force is a comedy series for Netflix has been deemed a “workplace comedy” and since it stars Steve Carell, that phrase would make you think it’s The Office in space.

Space Force was announced today via a Netflix small teaser with the 2001 Space Odyssey introduction. The small screen show was inspired by President Donald Trump’s plan to bring on a sixth branch of the military. Netflix deemed the show a “workplace comedy”, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Fans may get the idea and think of this project as The Office but in space. That said, I immediately think of quotes from the NBC show where Michael Scott says, “You have no idea how high I can fly”. Well, you never know that he may wind up flying to an altitude of many miles and possibly goofing with the ISS intercom system.

However, that would be too much like The Office…in space, wouldn’t it? So what kind of humorous angle will this show take?

Of course, it may not all occur in space right at the outset. The Netflix teaser expressed that “this is the story of the men and women who have to figure it out”. So it sounds like there could some humor dealing with the nebulousness of this sixth military branch.

But one can only speculate. It sounds like it’ll be a humorous think tank that will attempt to bring the United States success, if any.

Speaking of which, Greg Daniels, creator of The Office, will be joining Carell as they both take on Space Force’s creation. There are no scripts at this point, but what better time to create a spoof poking fun at the President. I feel there will be fresh and funny content to look forward to.

Don’t forget, Steve Carell had been a producer on The Office for 102 episodes, so surely he qualifies. And don’t call him Shirley.

Space Force seems to be intriguing, although it’s just a tease. This is also Steve Carell’s first time entering into a long haul of a small screen comedy series since The Office and I feel that it’s about time. Take note that The Office on Netflix is doing better in viewership than some of the streaming service’s original series. Carell was even approached about a revival of The Office.
