Mom Season 6, Episode 13 recap: Who’s coming to visit?
This week on Mom, trouble comes to town when an old friend drops by for a visit. Meanwhile, Christy tries out meditating but just can’t quite get it.
Adam waits till after he tried out a few moves he learned in an issue of Cosmopolitan to tell Bonnie his “Hollywood” buddy Mitch (Get Out‘s Bradley Whitford who we last saw back in Mom Season 4) is coming for a visit. Even though she’s not crazy about the idea of him coming to town, Bonnie is willing to negotiate, especially since Adam learned a few new moves.
The morning of his arrival, Christy and Bonnie are surprised to see how remorseful Mitch has become over his actions the last time he came. With “real tears” and everything, he pleads for their forgiveness. Bonnie and Christy, who manage to find it in their hearts to forgive him, excuse themselves to get to their AA meeting. Mitch asks if he can tag along, leaving Adam to head to his bar by himself.

After the meeting, the ladies and Mitch grab lunch at the bistro. Telling them of his latest film, Mitch recalls how difficult it is to balance recovering with directing action blockbusters. Wendy and Jill are just loving being in the presence of such a famous filmmaker, and they hang on to his every word. Christy tells him how hard juggling her job with school is, and he suggests she try meditating. Mitch then goes on to talk about his and Leanne’s split, saying she couldn’t do AA like he could, and it just fell apart.
Later at Adam’s bar, Bonnie and Mitch tour the place and talk about how he should film a movie there. He absolutely loves it and offers to become an investor to spruce it up and make it a hit. Speaking of hits, once Bonnie leaves the two so they could have “bro time,” Mitch lights up a joint. Asking if he can do that and be in the program, Mitch responds he’s “California sober.” And since he’s offering $20,000, Adam just shrugs it off and goes to find an ashtray.
Back at the Plunkett residence, we find Christy meditating on the couch. Unable to silence her mind, we hear all of Christy’s hilarious thoughts. Between worrying about potential knee cancer and having a conversation with her seventh-grade science teacher, we find out just how chaotic Christy’s mind really is.
Adam orders a new sign and is so excited to show Bonnie, but soon finds out that she thinks it looks like a “giant neon penis.” Bonnie then takes a picture to a meeting and gets the ladies’ opinions. With all of them agreeing it looks like genitalia, except Wendy, Bonnie is worried if the sign would turn away, but hopefully draw in, a crowd. Jill tells everyone how much meditating has helped her, which enrages Christy.

Giving mediation another shot, Christy ends up succeeding and quiets her mind, to a certain, acceptable degree. But just a few seconds into it Christy is interrupted by Leanne, who is very drunk and equally hilarious. After revealing that she got there by flashing her chest at a cab driver, “Boober,” Leanne gets really angry and demands to know where Mitch is.
Over at the bar, Mitch breaks his “California sobriety” and gets wasted at the now crowded establishment. Shocked to find him in this state, Bonnie and Adam take him to the office and try to get to the bottom of things.
Soon enough Christy arrives with Leanne, who causes a massive scene. Telling Bonnie that he was only sober to get on her good side, Mitch tries to pull a move on her. After she knocks him upside the head, Mitch heads running and screaming back to the bar, finding Leanne. Deciding to get over their differences, the couple proceeds to “make a baby” for all to see.
That night we find Bonnie and Adam back in the bedroom. Using the opportune time to reveal Mitch’s investment check bounced, Adam’s new bargaining chip comes in handy, yet again.
What did we think of this week’s episode of Mom? This was a busy episode, and one of the absolute best this season. Isn’t Leanne (Nicole Sullivan) so funny? I wonder if Christy will stick to her new pastime? Will the bar’s new neon sign improve business?
