The Punisher Season 2: Bathroom brawls are the new hallway fights
By Sandy C.
Season 2 of Marvel’s The Punisher premiered over the weekend on Netflix, wasting no time getting to the action and even starting a new Netflix Marvel Universe trend.
All fans of the Netflix Marvel Universe know about their love for fights in confined spaces. We know them as “hallway fights.” Whether our heroes are exiting an elevator, making their way out of a building, or the hall is completely dark, these fights always take place in a hallway of some sort. And they’re always are the biggest, most badas* clashes.
Even the Punisher aka Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) joined in the trend in Daredevil Season 2 when he took on countless prisoners in the prison cell hallway. This became the bloodiest hallway sequence yet, but let’s not forget how iconic Matt Murdock’s (Charlie Cox) one-shot hallway was! It’s the one that gave birth to this super cool trend.
The Punisher Season 2, however, may have just started something new. Well, sorta. Wasting no time, Frank Castle takes on several baddies in a small bathroom at a bar. Heads are smashed in sinks, bathroom doors get broken in half, and let’s not even get started on the bloody floors.
More from Netflix
- Bridgerton season 3: All the details to know about Penelope and Colin’s love story
- It’s a slow week on Netflix with only three new releases (Nov. 20)
- Exploding Kittens: From card game to Netflix animated series starring Tom Ellis
- The Crown and more Netflix shows and movies to stream this week (November 13)
- Escaping Twin Flames and more harrowing love-centered documentaries to watch on Netflix
If we were to sit and think back to all the fights in the Netflix Marvel Universe, this latest one definitely rank in the top three. So, why did we say Castle’s bathroom beating only “sorta” started a new trend? Well, because this universe is pretty much over.
Although nothing has been confirmed yet on whether or not The Punisher is canceled after its latest season, it’s highly unlikely the series will continue. If Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Daredevil have all been canceled, The Punisher isn’t safe.
There’s a tiny bit of hope, though, that The Punisher may live on. And that’s because, unlike Jessica Jones (Kristen Ritter) and the others, The Punisher is a spinoff. Fingers are crossed this is what keeps Frank Castle away from the chopping block. As for Jessica Jones, that show is guaranteed to be canceled shortly after Season 3, set to premiere later this year, is out.
Both seasons of The Punisher and previous Netflix Marvel Universe seasons are streaming on Netflix.
Have you finished binging the second season of The Punisher? What are your thoughts? Are you hoping it receives a Season 3 renewal or have you accepted its upcoming cancellation? If this is the end, at least it went off with a bang.
