SEAL Team: Did Bravo Team save Sonny?
SEAL Team delivered its most emotional and scariest episode ever. With Sonny trapped in a torpedo tube filling up with water, would Bravo Team get to him in time?
Caution: There are major spoilers for tonight’s episode of SEAL Team. If you haven’t watched it yet, you need to before reading this.
SEAL Team writers have always been extremely good at delivering emotional and intense episodes. Season 2 has taken things to a whole new level tonight. With Sonny stuck in a torpedo tube filling with water, we were left wondering whether Bravo Team would get him out in time.
And you can be honest here. You were just like me, on the edge of your seat the whole time. Throughout the episode, you were worried that AJ Buckley’s Sonny wasn’t going to make it out alive.

Most of the time our heroes are put in these types of situations, I know they’ll make it out. That’s especially the case in the middle of a season. Going into this episode, I didn’t think we’d say goodbye to Sonny.
And then it got to 20 minutes left to go and I couldn’t see a way out. Sonny had five minutes of air left and I was sure that the SEAL Team writers were going to deliver another horrific and emotional death. You could tell Bravo Team thought the same. With the order to remain silent, all they could do was stand around and try to keep their brother calm.

Whether you agreed with the captain or not (I admit I got the captain’s order because any noise would have led to the whole sub up), it was heartbreaking to hear Sonny scream out in fear. The tears streamed with Jason, Ray, Clay, and Blackburn, as they feared the worst. You could see them need to pass the radio between them, knowing they needed to stay strong for Sonny but need to cry at the same time.
So, what happened? Did they manage to get Sonny out in time?
Did you really think Buckley was leaving SEAL Team? Yes, Bravo Team came through. The North Korea sub got out of sonar range and one of the petty officers on the ship was able to cut the torpedo tube open. Sonny had taken in water, but he was given CPR and brought back to us.
What this means for Sonny and Davis moving forward, I don’t know. What I do know is that Sonny won’t be going through a torpedo tube anymore.
One thing I hope the SEAL Team writers do now is focus on Sonny’s very real fears. I want to see them focus on the PTSD that would come from something like this. There’s a real chance to fully develop Sonny’s character and it’s clear from tonight that Buckley can handle it.
