Supernatural takes a trip into the world of Criminal Minds in Season 14, Episode 12. What’s going on with the prophets and can Sam talk Dean out of his sacrificial plan?

The last we left our Winchesters, Sam had learned about Dean’s plan to lock himself away. It’s needless to say that now the plan is out, it’s playing on the minds of everyone and it’s most definitely not a secret. Supernatural Season 14, Episode 12 delivered an episode worthy of Criminal Minds fans while giving us some early season feels.

More from Supernatural

Of course, Nick was a part of the episode. If you thought that was over because he was arrested, you’re dead (pun intended) wrong. I’ll quickly start with his storyline to get it out of the way before moving on with the main storyline of the night.

A hospital can’t keep Nick down

We start in the hospital, where Nick is staying for now while his leg heals (you may remember Donna shot him). It doesn’t take him long to escape and then he heads to his former home.

While there, his wife shows up as a spirit. She has unfinished business. Nick tells her that the cop and the demon are dead so she can move on but that’s not why she’s still around. Her unfinished business is Nick.

It turns out that she saw Nick give into Lucifer. Now she knows that he is still searching for him. She can’t move on without him and is angry that she doesn’t want to be with him.

Dean’s fears of what’s to come

We opened with Dean stuck in the lockbox at the bottom of the ocean. Had he gone through with the plan already? Thankfully, no, but this is a look at what’s going on inside his mind.

Remember in Season 4 when we got those flashes of his memories of Hell? Well, this episode gives us his nightmares of what’s to come. Michael could keep Dean away forever and that’s exactly what plays out in Dean’s nightmares.

Of course, Sam and Castiel are trying to talk him out of the plan but, for now, it’s not going to happen. How long will it take?

An episode of Criminal Minds?

The episode starts in the creepiest fashion going for the case of the week. A man has a girl tied to a table and then kills her in a tub of water. Later, he grabs another man and slits his throats. Police note “graffiti” has been carved in the bodies.

When Sam finds the case, he realizes that this is “graffiti.” It’s Enochian.

This crazy guy is somehow a prophet, despite Donatello still being sort of alive. As Cass states, Donatello is in the middle of life and death, so it’s not all that shocking that the next prophet has been called. However, Cass wonders whether the prophet has been called in a corrupted way and that’s why he’s listening to the words wrong and killing people.

To stop this, there’s only one thing they can do. Donatello needs to be permanently killed.

Stop right there!

When Sam and Dean get to the hospice that Donatello is in, they find Castiel is there as Dr. Novak. The three also learn that a few days ago, Donatello started talking in jibberish. It’s Enochian and it turns out to be the words the crazy prophet had written down all over his wall and used to kill people.

Castiel realizes that there’s a chance to save Donatello. Right now, Donatello is trying to rebuild his mind, so Castiel helps speed up the process. And yes, it works.

But wouldn’t he come back as the soulless, evil guy that he was before? Well, he’s still soulless but he’s no longer evil from the demon tablet. He also doesn’t remember anything that’s happened, so it’s up to Castiel to catch him up.

Sam convinces Dean to change his mind

And in the final moments, Sam decides to fight for his brother. He needs Dean to fight for another way. “I believe in us,” he shouts and it has all the feels of earlier seasons. And with a tight hug, Dean finally gives in. He’ll find another way.

However, Dean really has a compromise. When it gets to the point that the lockbox is the only option, Sam has to let Dean sacrifice himself.
