Supernatural Episode 300 featured time reversal and John Winchester. Both were somehow linked. It’s time to delve into the situation.

Dean made a wish with a pearl. He wanted to get Michael out of his head but the pearl caused a bigger problem. John Winchester returned in Supernatural Episode 300 and it created a mess in the timeline. How was this possible?

I will state now that there are spoilers for the episode. If you haven’t watched it, this is one that you’ll definitely want to catch first. You can also check out the recap if you won’t get the chance to see it.

John Winchester was plucked out of an early timeline. It didn’t take long to figure out that he was from 2003 before the show even began. This had an effect on the whole timeline, leading to Dean becoming a wanted man again and Sammy still at Palo Alto and in love with kale. Soon it was clear that a lot more had changed.

When Zachariah turned up, he mentioned that there had been plans for the Winchesters. However, John went missing and all plans went out of the window. So, what happened? How could the wish and John’s appearance have messed up this timeline?

The pearl literally plucked John out of his timeline. While we saw him in 2019, back in 2003 he was missing. Maybe Dean turned to Sam for help like he did at the start of the series, but the outcome wouldn’t have been the same. There would have been no journal for Dean to find and no clues to continue the search for the Yellow-Eyed Demon.

The Winchester brothers would have remained on their separate paths, no longer talking at all. Rather than Jess dying, it sounds like she and Sam would have just broken up, as Sam made a point in the TED Talk that there wasn’t room for family.

Without the Yellow-Eyed Demon taking him on his path, he wouldn’t have taken steps to release Lucifer. Dean wouldn’t have sold his soul for Sam and gone to Hell, breaking the first seal. There would have been no apocalypse, so the plans for Sam and Dean would never have materialized.

John being removed from the timeline when he was changed everything. Had it happened at a later point, there’s a chance that things could have been salvaged and most of the plans would have still gone ahead, but being removed from 2003 meant the Winchesters would never become the close brothers they are.
