Every now and then, it’s easy to wonder if Sam still resents being pulled back into the life of a hunter. Supernatural Episode 300 confirmed that’s not the case.

When you rewatch the earlier Supernatural episodes, you’ll see how much Sam resents being pulled back into the hunter life. He routinely looks for ways to get out or has plans to live a normal life after his revenge or the apocalypse. Even his Heavens were full of times when he was away from hunting.

You’ll be forgiven for wondering if that’s still the case. Is there still a part of Sam that wants out? Supernatural Episode 300 suggests that’s not the case.

During his heart-to-heart with John, he pointed out that he barely thinks of the bad anymore. Of course, he wouldn’t be able to save “never” because there will always be instances when the bad seeps through. Just the episode before, Dean brought up John and some of the bad from the past. However, it’s clear that Sam doesn’t cling onto the bad in the way he did.

One thing life has taught him over the years is to cling onto the good. There’s so much evil in the world that he wants to focus on all the good times from the past. The only regret he had was not getting the chance to say goodbye to his dad, something that was rectified in this episode.

During the episode, we got a chance to see what could have been — a life where Sam didn’t have family or hobbies. He was successful in his job, but he had nothing else and you could see part of him in that TED Talk wasn’t happy. There was an essence of regret when talking about the lack of family.

And it was in seeing that and knowing that Sam could become that person that made it clear he no longer resents the hunting life. I got this feeling that he was happy in the place that he was in. Sure, it wasn’t the life he once thought he wanted. There had been hardships over the years and just recently he had a talk about sacrificing his brother, but it was all better than what could have been.

Sam no longer wants that normal life. He’s needed in the fight against evil and that’s where he’s happy staying.
