The last episode of The Goldbergs saw the family have a Valentines battle between Adam and Murray. Neither one of them wanted to do dinner with Beverly on the romantic holiday so both of them pretended to give a gift as the other person in hopes momma Beverly would pick the other person to be her “Valentine pickle.” After getting caught, Beverly realized Murray has been lazy with his gifts all these years, so she tells Murray she rather not go to dinner with him anyway. Realizing he hurt her, Murray attempts to make things right and makes a video expressing his love for her.

The episode also saw Erica and the bandmates seek a replacement for Lainey. The new bandmate though causes suspicion from Barry that the replacement might be to steal Erica away from Geoff. This caused Barry to behave irrationally and make Feoff paranoid for no reason. That said, it turns out Barry was just using his misplaced hurt from Lainey leaving to spark the jealousy in Geoff.

This week the show will pay tribute to the classic 80s action film Highlander, which starred Christopher Lambert as the sword-wielding immortal. According to the synopsis, Adam will have a battle against Johnny Atkins for who can be the head of the Highlander Club–and for those who do not remember Highlander, there can be only one.

It also says that Beverly attempts to get the boys to bond instead of fight over club control. There’s also a side plot involving Barry trying to stay close to his JTP crew instead of losing touch with his high school friends–Much like Murray did when he left high school.

"Despite Beverly wanting the two boys to bond, Adam and Johnny Atkins compete for the head of the Highlander Club at school. Meanwhile, Barry tries to keep him and JTP from the same fate of Murray falling out of touch with his high school friends."
